Form 8949 (Sale of Main Home) Turbo Tax only requiring 8949 (Page 2) (12A) not page 1?? after schedule D

Confused,

I went to save my PDF of my tax return, and there is no form 8949 page 1? it just goes schedule to directly to Page 2??

I had sale of my first home, and doing depreciation recapture and capital gains on the 1 year I rented it etc...

But it is confusing why I would have a schedule D and then it goes directly to page 2 of 8949 in the next form and no page 1?

Is that correct?

Thanks!

Page 1 is for short term gains, yours would be blank if your only capital transaction is the house (long term).   I don't see anything specifically in the instructions that says don't file page 1 if blank, but that's probably why it doesn't print and the IRS won't need it even if you do file by mail.

@Opus 17  sorry to bother you again, you had such good answers, this is the final issue I ran into.  Thanks! If you don't have the time no worries!

Thanks again!

I read something on "the google" that says program will only print both pages of 8949 if you have both short and long term gains. So hopefully it's alright it only gives page 2. I get anxiety about everything lol.

Thanks!

I have short and long term transactions but no page 1 of form 8949.  I plan to mail my transaction detail along with form 8453.  That form is not available in turbo tax.  I need to enclose form 8949 with form 8453.  How do I get page 1 of 8949

@mdewaard

if all your short term transactions are covered transaction without adjustments, Form 8949 is not required.

TurboTax is suppressing it in some case, like yours.

This is recently new behavior.
