Line 15 is your standard deduction or itemized deduction.It is saying that 15b + 15c = 15a.

If you took the standard deduction, 15a would be $24,400, 15b would be $12,200 and 15c would be $12,200.

If you itemized, you will need to find the total of your itemized deductions and then figure out how much belongs to each of you.

Yes I have the same problem. My 8379 form shows lines 15A thru 15F are

15A --->  0

15B ---> 3003.0

15C ---> 0

15D ---> 0

15F ---> 0

15G ---> 3003.0 (the sum)

Yet 15G is shown in RED

What is going on?????

I figured this out. The error is occurring in section 15 of Form 8379. The numbers in column 1 are pulled from Schedule A (itemized deductions) and cannot be changed on Form 8379 but the total is shown in

red

. However, columns 2 and 3 are for the injured spouse and the spouse respectively. These numbers are not automatically filled in and are blank. As soon as I put the same numbers from column 1 into column 2 (all income and tax withheld/paid belong to the injured spouse in this case), the error went away.

So the

red

total in column 1 line 15G is for the sum of columns 2 and 3 from 15G, NOT because lines A thru F of column 1 do not add up. TT needs to be explained much better on that screen.

if you override line 15g, and then set to ZERO(if you are taking standard deduction), the error will go away

there is an error in TURBOTAX for that box.
