Form 7206 (not done)

I entered all the information on Form 7206, but the software still says Form 7206 (not done) with the red explanation mark.  Is it because the IRS form is not ready yet? Is waiting until February 7 the only thing I need to do?

Yes, the form won't be available in TurboTax before 02/07/2024.

It takes some time to incorporate IRS forms into TurboTax. While they may be available from the IRS on a given date, we need a few days to make the forms available for use in TurboTax.

This is the first year I am trying to file early (usually wait until end of March) and have never experienced this issue.  Something new learned. Thanks.

If you have self employed health insurance deductions you must wait until TT finalizes the form 7206. It is filed out in TT with a red flag warning that it is not yet ready for use. I have seen on several blogs that people are deleting the form so that they can e-file early. Although I believe form 7206 will not affect most returns, unless it is included you stand to incorrectly take the self employed health insurance tax deduction when you may not be entitled to do so. This is a new form and so that noting it was not present on 2022 returns does not matter it is necessary for 2023.

The form is required to be filed if you are using the deduction.

  • Use Form 7206 to determine any amount of the self-employed health insurance deduction you may be able to report on Schedule 1 (Form 1040), line 17.  The link will provide further details for you.

The scheduled date for release remains at February 7th, however use this link for up to the minute information.

Today is February 7th & it’s still not available? Do we have to wait until you open or something?

Any updates to when this form will be available? I’ve paid for the service and at a hold to finish filing because of this .

Can we please get some clarity on the delay of this form? I would like a refund to go file elsewhere if intuit is going to further delay this form and not provide answers.

Glad I'm not the only one confused and waiting for this ONE FORM to file. Hopefully there's an update sometime very soon!

According to the Forms Availability Table, Form 7206 will be ready to file on February 7, 2024. We recommend that you wait until the next day, update TurboTax (if using the desktop version), run Review again, then attempt to e-file.

Makes sense. "It'll be available on 2/7, but it won't actually be available until 2/8." 😐🙄

Tomorrow 2/8 we will be able to e-file and all the tension involved with tax preparation will be over.

It really is the IRS that create problems that TT then has to solve. Good luck all.

It's February 7th at 12:47 p.m. and this form still isn't available. What's going on?

This is scheduled to be fixed with the February 7 update. The updates generally happen at night. It should be available February 8.

Then you guys should have your system say 2/8 not 2/7.

Can you understand why people are annoyed if your system says "available 2/7" and then you say it will actually be updated and ready 2/8?

Exactly! Get it together Turbo!

2:28PM EST and still not available yet. We've all  been told it will be available today, and even TT support is not sure why it's not up yet and said to keep checking. Where is others are saying it may be delayed until 2/8 since for whatever reason they didn't push the update midnight to be ready for today as promised.

For all those who are done waiting for some future date, HRBlock has said they have had this form available in their tax filing system for all those to use at least.

I recommend you guys get your stuff together and complete the form on the day you said it would be ready to file! I noticed that it said the 7th until a day or two ago. I wondered why it no longer gave a date when I opened the app. Now I know why.

No the IRS fault on this. As others have said other companies like H&R have been available to file.

Not sure about the mobile app if that's what you mean, but the web site when logged in still definitely says Available to File 02/07/2024 for Form 7206. Nothing about updated tonight and Available to File 2/8 or anything. So I recommend keep checking and everyone here posting on their Twitter/X to their support asking for an update to put more pressure on an official response.

I note that several people have mentioned H & R allowing filing. I wonder if they have filed form 7206 for those who have self employed health insurance deductions. If not and they are still using the no longer allowed prior IRS worksheet for self employed health ins deduction, the1040 may be wrong. I did use another free tax service and they would allow filing but did not have form 7206. Be cautious. All the best.
