Filing my 2021 taxes in 2024

I have everything entered and prepared to e-file however it will not let me continue because of the signature date is 06/12/2024. How do I get it to accept todays date for the signature date to complete my taxes for 2021?

STOP!!  You can not use the Online version for 2021.  Online  is only for 2023 now.  And you can't efile a prior year.  So you should try to clear it.

Sorry it's too, late to start a 2021 online return or use the mobile app, either on Turbo Tax or the IRS. And too late to efile 2021.  If you need to do 2021 you can buy the Desktop download here,

TurboTax 2021 Prior Year Tax Prep - File Past Years' Taxes

You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.

If you have a simple return and want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand.  Here are some basic forms.....

Here is the 2021 1040 return

or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors,

Don’t forget your state.  And you will have to print and mail your returns.  So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.

And by the way,  today is June 12, 2024.  So it should have let you efile it except it would be WRONG and you would have a mess to straighten out.  When you entered your 2021 info and income it was filling it out on the 2023 forms, not 2021.  Be glad it didn't let you efile.  Have you filed 2023 yet?

TurboTax says: 2022, 2021, or earlier tax returns can no longer be e-filed.

Our e-filing window for non-corporate and non-partnership returns goes from January to mid-October of the calendar year that immediately follows the tax year. For example, tax year 2022 returns could be e-filed from January 2023 through October 2023.

I believe this applies to both the online and desktop versions.

@larry510 Some professional paid tax preparers are able to e-file prior year tax returns.   You cannot e-file a prior year tax return using TurboTax.    Any return---even 2023---now must be filed by mail.   When tax filing season for 2024 tax returns opens, you will be able to e-file a 2024 tx return.
