Filed Taxes twice

So I filed my 2019 taxes on hr block about 2 months ago and it’s been pending, what I didn’t realize was hrblock filed it as my 2020 taxes. I didn’t realize this till I filed my 2020 taxes using turbo tax. So now both are pending e-file. Not sure what I should do? My taxes were done correctly with  turbo tax but was filed after the other was already submitted first. Can anyone help me what to do?

You are going to have to wait to see which return gets accepted and which one gets rejected.   One of them will be rejected, maybe both of them.  But you are not going to know until the IRS starts accepting returns around the 12th.   If your TurboTax return gets accepted, your other return will be rejected and you won't need to do anything with 2020.  But it the other return you filed gets accepted, you will need to amend it if is has your 2019 data reported on it.   The TurboTax return will be rejected if the other gets accepted.  And there is no way to tell or change which return will get accepted first.  So basically, all you can do is wait on the 2020 return right now.   But you can take care of 2019 in the meantime.

It is too late to e-file a 2019 tax return, no matter which software you used.  That return will need to be paper-filed and mail to the IRS.  For instructions on how to do this in TurboTax, please see How do I finish a prior-year return that I started in TurboTax Online?

Either way you still need to file a real 2019 return.

To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here,

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.

If you want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand.  Here are some basic forms.....

Here is the 2019 1040 return

or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors,

2019 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2019.pdf

2019 EIC and Tax Tables https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040tt--2019.pdf

2019 Schedules 1-3

Don’t forget your state.  And you will have to print and mail your returns.  So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them.  You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places.  Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.
