Filing as Head of Household will result in less tax and more refund, as your income will fall in lower tax brackets and you will have a higher standard deduction.

But you can't file as Head of Hpusehold if you no longer have a qualifying dependent.

There are conditions to satisfy in order to file as Head of household. You must:

  • Pay for more than half of the household expenses
  • Be considered unmarried on the last day of the tax year, and
  • You must have a qualifying child or dependent.

Please read this TurboTax article for more information.

Unless you can claim a qualified dependent, you will need to file as Single.  In order to file as HOH, you need a qualified dependent.

If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your marital status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.
