Error 70001 will not let me open new Turbo Tax installation

I just downloaded TurboTax 2024 for Windows and when I try to open it I get an error that says its running under a different account already, and that I need to switch users and run TurboTax from the other account to continue.  Does this mean another TurboTax account, or another Windows account?

Thanks!

Forgot to mention we got a new computer during the past year.  Does that have something to do with this?

Possibly.  It is suggested to uninstall, reboot, reinstall, but some users have been successful in removing Error 7001 by closing the other TurboTax running from the Task Manager.

Very frustrated about the 70001 error. Can't launch the TurboTax. And can't find a solution in this site.  No one can really explain the cause of the problem other than just try this try that.  Why there is no bulletin on this issue? It is a bug to me.  The only thing I can think about to work-around it is to use a spare computer to install the software and try.

I will switch to other software next year.

I am able to overcome the issue.  Here is what I did.

If my issue turns out to be a firewall issue, once I get TT reinstalled again should I be able to turn my firewall back on, set it to allow (not block) TT, and then it will no longer give me the 70001 error?

Can you help me open my new Turbo Tax installation?

This did work for me.  I uninstalled, I disabled my firewall, installed TT, then set my firewall to allow TT app, then turned firewall back on, and it appears to work fine.

I have the same issue and have tried all the different ways to correct it- no luck.

Maybe a compromised log in code?

You tried:

  • Checking Task Manager to see if two TurboTax processes are running.  If so, close both and restart your computer
  • Disabling your anti-virus software.  Here's How to Turn Off Anti-Virus Programs

If you got a new computer, try setting up a new user in Windows the installing TurboTax there
