Couldn't save this file because it is "read only" or part of a "read only " ,such as a CD use "save as" to rename or move it Error: 567812

Error: 567812 is displayed when I attempt to save my .tax2024 file on my D: drive partition (along with my other tax data).  It also leaves lots of .taxbak files in the D: directory I'm using.  I checked the file properties of the .tax2024 file, and there are no read-only or other restrictive properties set. I've been doing this same process with Turbotax for decades (storing my .tax file on my D data partition), but for Deluxe 2024 there is a new restriction. I updated and restarted the program. I verified if I do exactly the same thing, but save in the Windows Desktop directory (on the C: Windows drive partition) it works fine.  It's unacceptable that Turbotax wants to block me from saving in the directory of my choice on a partition of my physical drive on my own laptop.  Intuit customer support was no help, just going through a checklist, but finally agreeing to make a customer feedback request.
This bug should be fixed.

You can move your TurboTax  file from C drive to D drive after completing your return. 

 

Navigate to the local C drive, right-click the files you intend to transfer and select "Copy" or "Cut." Click the local D drive, right-click anywhere, and choose "Paste."

Dear Expert,

I am getting Error 567812. I am on  TT Desktop this year instead of online, and cannot save my work. I installed normally/default and TT is on the computer's C drive, C:\Program Files\TurboTax. I cannot save a copy to that location (do not have permission acc. to TT). The file ending ...1040 Individual Tax Return.tax2024 was last saved in January, when I started my taxes. I lost all work yesterday because TT would not save my work re: this message. 

How do I fix this problem? Thank you.

@gmcconnell Unless you manually changed where a saved file is to be entered on your hard drive, the default location for saving a tax return and a PDF is to the TurboTax folder in the Documents directory.

Click on the File menu on the top left of the desktop program screen, click on Save.

Thank you. I did not change any file locations, when I tried to save yesterday, TT defaulted to the location I mentioned above, and that is where the file saved in Jan. was. Don't know what that was about, but, per your advice, I found a TT folder in the Documents folder (it was empty), and saved a copy of my return there. It seems to be working now. Thank you for the tip.
