I'm trying to import my data from Schwab and keep getting a generic error message saying "something unexpected happened". I have been trying for a few days and keep getting the same error. I don't have any issues importing from Chase and Wealthfront. I tried Safari and Chrome and get the same error. Any idea what's going on and how to fix this?
Although you might be able to view or print your information from the website, most banks, brokerages and other financial institutions do not have the data formatted for import into tax software before sometime in February. So if you are wanting to enter it sooner, you have to key it in by hand. Or….wait until it is available for import.
are the import files ready? they are separate from the PDFs which can be downloaded but not imported. for further info contact Schwab.
Im having the same issue. I cant key manually, too many items, this is a deal breaker with TT, I will have to find another service if its not corrected soon.
When I try to import from Charles Swab it says the documents won't be ready to import until Feb 14 for all 1099 forms.
Not till Feb 14th. Then you can import. Not till Feb 14th. Then you can import.
I am having the same problem as all other forms have downloaded fine. Turbotax has been of no help.
Schwab, as well as other brokers, makes PDFs of the tax forms available earlier than the files that are needed to import the data. PDFs can not be imported. saying you have to wait until 2/14, indicates that the files needed for import won't be ready until that time. importing is a direct transfer from the broker's server to your return. No file is created on your computer.
If you can give the Error Message you receive trying to import, we'll try to help.
In TurboTax Online, you can attach a PDF of your 1099-B; however, in TurboTax Desktop, here's How to Enter a Summary in Lieu of Individual Transactions, which only requires a small amount of data entry.
When importing, make sure TurboTax and Windows are both updated, and temporarily disable all anti-virus software (including modem). Make sure your broker does not require you to allow 'third party access', which you may enable in your broker account, if this applies.

Having an issue as well Feb 17.
Click import, enter schwab log in credentials, everything connects. I see files in my intuit.com account. But, nothing is imported to the tax software.
If you received a pop-up screen saying 'your import was successful', you can see your imported data at the Income Topics page, under Import Summary, just above Wages & Salaries in TurboTax Desktop. Some brokers require that you allow 'third party access' to successfully import, which is a setting you enable in your brokerage account.
Here's How to Enter a Summary in Lieu of Individual Transactions and more info on Schwab Import Issues.
If you're using TurboTax Online, save a PDF of your transactions to your computer. If it contains 1099 INT/DIV, you can make one entry for the totals in these categories. The 1099-B PDF can be attached to your return. You would choose Add Investments > Enter in a different way > Stocks > Sales Section Totals. You'll come to a screen asking you to upload your 1099-B.
Not sure what you mean by 'I see files in my intuit.com account'? Could you clarify?
This has been an incredibly frustrating experience. I can't tell you not how many hours I've spent trying to import my documents. It makes no sense that they're not available to import when they're available via PDF and on the website. Then, even after waiting until February 14th when they were claimed to have been available for import, the import fails.. and repeatedly 😪😭
I'm with you. I've been incredibly frustrated with the same issues, and for weeks!!!
Correct, but it didn't work on February 14th, 15th or 16th either!! Ugh
When importing one of the steps required was to log into intuit account. While logged into intuit.com I have a menu bar on the left. One is called Documents and that is where I see all my schwab tax files I downloaded but were not imported.
However, after reading other posts I finally fixed my import problem. I had to disable "Brave Shields" for the popup browser. After disabling the security I was able to import. I know I did not have to do that last year.
Just tried to download my 1099 from Schwab and only party of the information is there. It updated the totals on Form 1040 but it did not update the individual interest and dividend sections under income section and these are showing zeros and error messages . I tried updating these sections but all it does is create an additional/new 1099. Anyone else having this problem?
I think I'm going to delete the forms because it is showing zero and enter it by hand. :(
Just deleted the 1099 in the interest and dividend section and the tax due/refund $$ changed. I'm now entering it by hand. What a mess!
Update: I deleted the partial imported 1099 from Schwab and decided to try it again. This time it imported the Dividend section only. I deleted that and tried again. This time it imported both interest and dividends and appears to have entered it in the correct places in the interview sections however, when I look at the Form Schedule B the dividends are missing and the $$ amount at the top has not changed.
I am definitely entering all of this by hand because something is seriously wrong with the import function.
THANK YOU!!! Even though I am sorry for the time you are spending on things you shouldn't need to repeat, you allowed me to feel as if I am part of a team who is also experiencing this crap. What a waste of time for all of us:(
I have such difficult to import the forms from Charlse Chewab, totally not expect this
SOLUTION: Make sure you are using a default browser of EDGE/CHROME for WINDOWS. There was an issue with using other browsers in Wins with popups and redirect. PopUp works fine but the redirect back to TT was stuck.
Used these two browser and import worked!
