f your saying your return was rejected due to a duplicate SSN, then you must call the IRS. Go to this link http://www.irs.gov/uac/Taxpayer-Guide-to-Identity-Theft.  That rejection means someone else has used your information.

Please double check all Social Security numbers in your return against everybody's Social Security card. You can do this by clicking the Personal Info tab and going through these screens again.

  • If you come across any mistyped entries, correct them and then try e-filing again.
  • Otherwise, if you verified that all Social Security numbers are correct, contact us and one of our representatives will assist you.

Did you submit your information through one of the non-filer applications in order to get your stimulus payment?  There are non-filer options either through TurboTax or the IRS.

If so, when using the non-filer system, your information is processed by the IRS as an original filed return.

If not, then you may have a more serious identity theft issue to address.

See the following TurboTax articles for some additional advice about your situation:

If you are positive that you didn't already e-file your return on an earlier date (or used the TurboTax non-filer stimulus registration/IRS Non-Filers Enter Payment Info Here tool) and you are sure that you are not eligible to be claimed as a dependent by someone else, you may be a victim of identity theft. You will have to file a paper return instead of e-filing. When you print your return for paper filing, also complete IRS Form 14039, Identity Theft Affidavit (PDF).  Use a fillable form at IRS.gov, print it, then attach the form to your return and mail your return according to instructions.

You can access IRS resources on identity theft here.

TurboTax also has resources on identity theft here.

If you did use the TurboTax non-filer stimulus registration/IRS Non-Filers Enter Payment Info Here tools before trying to file your 2019 tax return, this is what is causing this rejection. These tools are for non-filers only, and they operate by filing a tax return showing income of $1. This allows the stimulus to be processed, but it creates an issue if you actually had to file a normal tax return.

If you submitted the non-filer form, it was processed by the IRS as an original filed return.  Any subsequent filing cannot be filed electronically; it has to be mailed in. To fix this error, you can print and mail your return now, as is.

I still can not submit my Turbo Tax Completed Form via email.

When I hit the submit button, it simply returns to the beginning of the section, with no message or explanation. Does not submit either Federal or State forms.
