Can we claim any dependent status for children who graduated college in 2016; but didn't start employment until: 1 in July and 1 in September ?

It depends on whether or not you meet the qualifications to claim your child:
You may be able to claim your child as a qualifying child if:
They are under 19, or a full-time student (full time student for at least 5 months) and under 24 years of age. There is no age limit if he is permanently and totally disabled.
They live with you for more than half of the year (Temporary absences, like going to college does not count)
Your child provides less than half of their support for the tax year
You are the only person claiming them

Full time student for AT LEAST PART of at least five months. And you do NOT have to provide over half their support: they need to provide less than half their support.
