It depends on whether or not you meet the qualifications to claim your child:

You may be able to claim your child as a qualifying child if:
  • They are under 19, or a full-time student (full time student for at least 5 months) and under 24 years of age. There is no age limit if he is permanently and totally disabled.
  • They live with you for more than half of the year (Temporary absences, like going to college does not count)
  • Your child provides less than half of their support for the tax year
  • You are the only person claiming them

It depends on whether or not you meet the qualifications to claim your child:

Full time student for AT LEAST PART of at least five months.  And you do NOT have to provide over half their support: they need to provide less than half their support.
