Step 1 ... delete that W-2 form

Step 2 ... log out and clear your cookies and/or switch browsers

Step 3 ... re enter W-2 form being careful to not make the same input error

Step 4 ... complete the state interview section again

Step 5 ... click on the REVIEW tab to see if the error is gone

I am using Turbo Tax Mac Software, not a browser.
I did reenter the w2 form and review the State tax section. Do I need redo the whole thing from the beginning?!

I'm getting the same thing, also in Indiana. I have completely deleted the tax return and definitely do not have any duplicate numbers the 4 boxes listed. I imported W-2 first. Error. I the keyed by hand, still error. Very frustrating! 😕

Ok ...look at the W-2 boxes 2, 16, 17, 18, 19 ... are they all different amounts ?  Are any of them the same ?

If any of them are the same on the W-2 form then you will need to request a correct form from the employer.

If NONE of them are the same amount then review you W-2 form entries in the program ... did you key them incorrectly ?

As I stated, I do NOT have any duplicate #'s in the 4 boxes TT is referencing. They are 4 completely different #'s.

Also as stated, I Imported and got the error. I also hand keyed, everything was correct and am still getting the error. Have tried calling TT, but after a long wait, was hung up on when I explained the issue. This is the first time I've had an issue with TT in the 15 years I've been using and resolution is extremely frustrating. 😕

@DrewStanley

OK ... sounds like you will need to try tech support again but before you do ... if you are using the downloaded program make sure it is  up to date and/or uninstall the program and  try installing it again as it may be corrupted.  Make sure to save the .taxfile  to a safe place like a thumb drive .

Did you find a solution to this problem? I called TT for help with the same problem, and was told they wouldn't help me unless I paid extra for live help.

I think this is an issue with TurboTax which need to be fixed, at least starting from next tax filing year

I'm having the same very frustrating issue. Note, I think that "Critter-3" is incorrect re the W-2 boxes to check -- it should be W-2 boxes 2, 16, 17, 19.  I have checked the W-2s many times & none of these amounts "have the same dollar amount."  On one of my W-2s, which was for a very small amount of wages ($42.50), no box 2 federal income tax was withheld -- I'm wondering if TT is having a 'divide by zero' issue maybe?

I had the same issue with Indiana return. One of my W2's had $107 in wages and $0 for federal taxes withheld. I changed that to $0.01 and it processed. Seems there is an issue if W2 shows a $0 withholding.

can you explain more how you fixed this? Im having to same error. Ive already restarted twice so I know im not entering duplicate info. What box did you change to .01 if it said 0?

If there is no withholding in box 2 then leave the field blank ... don't even enter a zero.

Also from Indiana.  I went back and looked at least 5 times.  I finally figured out that on one of our W2's there was a 9-cent difference between what was withheld for Fed versus what was withheld for State.  The IRS rounds the dollar figures such that if the amount is less than 50 cents (or maybe less than/equal to) they assume the whole dollar amount rounded down (that is, $10.25 would be $10 to the IRS).  Anything above that magic figure is rounded up (that is, $10.52, would be $11 to the IRS).  So, the Fed & State withholdings - after both were rounded down - were the exact same amount, at least according to Uncle Sam.

I have not yet filed, I want to recheck myself; however, going through the process, I intentionally changed the amount of withholding on one of the figures such that it would NOT be the same as the rounded amount and found out that eFiling will now work.

Still seems like a bug in the TT software, but in the end, it did not impact my overall tax obligation to either Fed or State.  Being in IT, I would strongly advise the good folks at TT review their software and fix this.  It does not seem to be working correctly.

I had the same issue (in Indiana) because I had 1 blank box and 1 $0.25 dollar amount in the indicated boxes the second one that rounded down to zero. I just deleted one of them leaving the box blank and then I was able to e-file my state taxes. It did not change anything about my return so I hope it is still accepted, but I really didn't want to print it out and send it via USPS because of a $0.25 entry that rounds down to zero. We'll see what happens. Definitely a stupid glitch probably meant to eliminate mistakes, but very inconvenient for the fee I am paying.

I have done the same and still have the same error message. There are no duplicate numbers on three W-2 I have entered. Why are we paying for this service if we cant electronically file? I might as well do my taxes the old fashion way if I have to mail them.

Ok ... did you get 2 W-2 forms from the same employer using the same EIN?

Or did you and the spouse work at the same place ?

Or is one of the W-2 forms just an overflow page where there is only info in box 12 or the state boxes 15 - 20 ?

So I had this same issue when doing my son's taxes and I figured out why it was happening.

It is a rounding issue.  He worked briefly at a company and his tax federal tax with holding (box 2) was $3.00.  His Local income tax with holding (box 19) was $3.49.  I changed that number to $3.51 and it worked.

This happened to our taxes too, and the fields are blank. They do NOT say $0. They are blank. This is SO CLEARLY a bad algorithm on Turbo Tax's end. How do I ask for my money back from Turbo Tax for this very lame algorithm. I should not have to put in $0.01, which is false, to get it to process?

IT IS A ROUNDING ISSUE for sure. Make sure that lines 2 and 19 do not round to the nearest same dollar. Probably the same for other lines but lines 2 and 19 were what got me stuck. Good luck everyone. I just spent like 4 hours trying to figure this out. I did NOT want to send a paper copy of my Indiana returns. I just got them both efiled after fixing the rounding issue.
