There is not a Payer EIN for the Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay.  For the entry, see  How do I enter my Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay in TurboTax?

I have followed the directions, paid for the upgraded version, and it is still asking for a Federal EIN and not allowing me to file.... Suggestions? It will not let me enter my SSN instead of the FEIN, as some other posts have suggested. Customer service was not able to assist me either...

Use

41-6007162

Or follow these instructions as mentioned above,

DO NOT enter it as a 1099

Delete that if you have tried to enter it that way.

Scroll down to "Other Reportable Income"

In this section, you just enter the AMOUNT, not a Form.

Since you are not entering a Form, the TurboTax program will NOT ask for an EIN.

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax
  2. Select Federal
  3. Select Wages & Income
  4. Under Less Common Income, select Start or Revisit next to Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
  5. Select Start or Revisit next to Other reportable Income
  6. On the Any Other Taxable Income? screen, select Yes
  7. Enter MN Frontline as the description and enter the amount you received
  8. Continue through and finish your federal return
  9. Begin your Minnesota return until you see the Frontline Worker Pay screen
  10. Enter the Payment Amount

Thank you!

That employer number worked. I had followed the directions, did not enter it as a 1099, and it still was asking for that when I got to the review stage.

Now my other question is, is TurboTax subtracting what it needs to do so that the Frontline Pay is not showing up as taxable? When I entered it, the amount due for State taxes increased. I cannot see the detailed forms to make sure it is calculating as the state directed:

  • Is not taxable in Minnesota and not included in household income. If you report the payment on line 8 of Schedule 1, subtract it on these lines:
    • Line 29 of Schedule M1M, Income Additions and Subtractions.
    • Line 10 of Form M1PR, Homestead Credit Refund (for Homeowners) and Renter’s Property Tax Refund.
    • Line 5b of Schedule M1ED, K-12 Education Credit.

Does TurboTax automatically do that? Is there a spot I can check?

Thanks again for your help!

When you do the MN state return, you will come to a screen that asks about the Frontline Worker Pay

Enter the amount on this screen and the income will be subtracted from the state return.

I did this, and it increased the amount due, that's why I was questioning if it was calculating it correctly/as directed by the state.

Yes you can review/view your completed forms.  In desktop versions you can see and delete the forms using "Forms Mode".  In online versions you can download/print your forms using "Tax Tools" and then "Print center" in the left hand menu.

Note:  It is strange that an Employer ID is being requested without a 1099 or W2 entry.

Besides looking for the MN subtractions be sure when you look at your forms check for a duplicated amount on the federal forms.

Look at form 1040 line 1h, and schedule 1, lines 3 and 8z.  The MN Frontline pay should only be on line 8z one time and that flows to line 8 on the form 1040.

If you find there is a duplicated amount use the "Delete a Form" function (steps below for online) to delete the duplicate form/entry.

1. Select "Tax Tools" in the left hand menu
2. Select "Tools"
3. Select "Delete a Form"
4. Find the 1099-Misc and any other income form that doesn't apply
5. "Delete"
6. "Confirm Deletion"
