A superseding return is defined as a second (or subsequent) return can be filed on or before the due date for filing, including extensions.

A superseding return must be filed on a paper Form 1040 – e-filing is not allowed.  Write  "Superseding Return" at the top of the form.

You can accomplish the same thing if you file your amended return before the due date of the return and can file that electronically.

From my reading of the IRS News Release (IR-2022-130, June 23, 2022), it appears the IRS allows for the electronic submission of a superseded return.

If TT doesn't currently allow for the electronic submission of a superseded return, does anyone know if there are plans to add this capability?

Thanks,

Generally, you can e-file your amended federal return via TurboTax if your original return was also e-filed in TurboTax.

However, there's a chance your return can't be e-filed based on your unique situation. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return. If you received a message that you can't Efile your Amended Return, it may be because it contains a form that can't be Efiled.
