Can I file 1040-X before paying for Form 1040?

This is my first time using TurboTax to amend for a prior tax return done using Sprintax. If not, would 1040-X require extra payment on top of Form 1040?

If you need to Amend a prior year 1040NR, you will end up preparing a Form 1040, then amending it.

 

So you'll pay the price for buying the prior year desktop software, and then there's no additional cost to Amend.
