Bug in handling of state tax refunds from 1099-G

Hi all. There is a TurboTax (desktop) bug in handling of state tax refunds reported on Form 1099-G. The problem is that the options for "type of payment" does not include a simple state tax refund. So I had to pretend to be a business, create a fake business name and business category code, in order to enter the refund amount.

Make sure you are entering your 1099-G in the correct spot - there are 3 different entry screens, depending on what type of income your 1099-G reflects.   For a state and local tax refund, use the instructions in this TurboTax FAQ.

 

If you accidentally created a Schedule C or Schedule F in your return, you can use the instructions below to delete it.
