Mac System Requirements
If you can't install the Desktop program, you can use the Online version and transfer from your 2022 Desktop return. How to transfer into the Online version, expand the blue link if you used the CD/download last year
If you used the Desktop program before you may notice several differences and not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. You can only do 1 return. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2023 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.
That link only has up to 2022 requirements. Here's for 2023 System Requirements
Thank you, but I am using a laptop. I do not have access to a desktop. My problem seems to be with the version of operating system I am using (Big Sur - 11.7). I am confused on how to download it to current laptop or to just forget.
The Desktop program doesn't mean just desktop computers but any computer or laptop running the full Windows or Mac OS. The same instructions apply to both. Yes if you are using MAC you need OS 12. So if you want to switch to the Online web version next year you can transfer from the 2022 laptop return.
I got your PM. What is going to be fixed? Did you upgrade to Mac OS 12? There's nothing Turbo Tax can fix for you if you don't have OS 12.
This is crazy. I have been using Turbotax for years. Now my MacBook Pro can only update through Big Sur 11. Am I to understand I need to buy a new computer. Apple will not let me upgrade to a version 12 operating system. So am I now to get a hacked operating system just to run Turbotax. Turbotax please help
@Heajd00 The requirement for TurboTax 2023 when using a Mac for the desktop editions is -
macOS Monterey 12 or later
If you are unable to upgrade your Mac computer, the TurboTax online editions are available.

The 2023 online editions should be available in early December.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for transferring the 2022 tax data file from your computer to the 2023 online editions - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/transfer-last-year-return-turbotax-online/L279eUvY2_US_en_US?uid=lpg3ez73
I am having the same issue. I've used Turbo Tax for years, but the 2023 version states I need an operating system that I cannot get on my computer. My computer operating system is Big Sur 11.7.1 on my 2014 MacBook Pro, which is the up to date operating system. I don't need or want a new computer, yet 2023 Turbo Tax will not run with my operating system. Very frustrating.
@Heajd00 If your Mac cannot meet the system requirement for the 2023 CD/download, you can always use the online software. You might not like online as much as the CD/download, but it beats having to purchase a new computer.
I've purchased the downloaded version from Costco already. Would I have to purchase the program again for the online version?
You cannot use the license code for the CD/download to pay for online software. The pricing structures are very different. Seek a refund from Costco for the software you cannot use.
I want to download TurboTax for Home business 2023. My Mac operating system is Mac OS Big Sur 11.7 .10. Is there software available that I can download
Sorry---if your OS cannot be updated to meet the system requirement for the 2023 CD/download then you could use the online software instead.
Looks like a lot of us are in the same boat - we either need to buy a new Mac for $2,000, use Turbotax's online software, or stop using Turbotax. From descriptions on line, it looks like Turbotax's online software won't work for me because I have an interest in a small LLC and some income from a small parcel of real estate, so I need the Premier version of Turbotax. H&R Block's software is also highly rated and costs only about $10 more than Turbotax for the Premier version. That's what I'm going to do. I'll try to take my Turbotax version back to Sam's Club, where I bought it. I've been using Turbotax for literally decades. Hate to leave it, but Intuit is leaving me no choice. I'm not going to pay $2,000 for a new laptop I don't otherwise need just because Intuit doesn't want to spend the money to make its new software compatible with my operating system.
I too have used Turbo Tax for over 10 years and need the premier version. I had purchased Turbotax online through Costco, and was fortunate Costco understood my problem and refunded my money. I'm sure how I'm going to proceed, but know I'm not purchasing a new computer just to complete my taxes. I wish Turbo Tax would come up with a solution for us all.
You can use the Online Premium version for all that. It does the same as the Desktop Home & Business.
If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version. You need to have the prior year .tax2022 file on your computer. It should be in your Documents in a Turbo Tax folder. Expand the link if you used the CD/download last year........
If you used the Desktop program before you may not like the online version. It has less features and no Forms Mode. All the Online versions do not have the same forms so you may need to upgrade to a higher version. You can only do 1 return. Your return is only saved online so be sure to save both the .tax2023 data file and the pdf file to your computer when you are done. In case you need to amend in the future or if you need a copy to get a loan or something. You might not be able to access your online return when you need a copy.
You are correct. It's absolute **bleep** to have to buy a new computer to continue using Turbo Tax in the future. My laptop runs perfectly but I can't upgrade past 11.7.10.
Intuit should provide a better option.
I have the same problem here. My old MacPro won't go higher than 11.7. It is kind of rediculous that Turbotax can't provided the support for that system. Can't you ask your developers to change the tool chain and recompile? How hard is that!

I am running MacOS Monterey 12.7.2 but it still won't work.
I use TurboTax Premier every year and have never had this problem before. The file is TurboTax 2023.app.zip and I purchased it from Amazon. After I download it and click on the application I get the message The application “TurboTax 2023” can’t be opened
Any suggestions?
