If your return is rejected,

  1. Check your email. Look for an ACTION NEEDED! email from turbotax@intuit.com and follow the instructions.
  2. Search for a solution. Do a search of the reject message or code for instructions on how to fix it.
  3. Open and fix your return.
  4. Re-file your return.

Note: If you get the same rejection a second time (or third, or fourth, or fifth...) and you see no mistakes on your return, select the file by mail option to paper-file your return. Sometimes, returns keep getting rejected even though there's nothing wrong with them (data mismatches, dependents already claimed, and so forth).

In these cases, we recommend paper-filing by mail rather than wasting additional time trying to "fix" something that is beyond your control.

do Not just give up and mail it in. Check the mail in file and then go over the documents one by one until you figure out what the issue is. I had an error that the software nor the tt help could find. Then go back in your return , fix it and then Efile again. However the only way you can really review is by clicking mail in first and then going back and changing it to efile when you are done. It’s usually a software bug that can’t be seen turbo tax needs to let you access all documents should an error come up. Sometimes the autofill is wrong and it won’t catch it when reviewing
