After Fed efile and payment of tax due scheduled to be direct debited, Turbo tax says to print and mail form 1040-V

I efiled my 2024 return and the return was also accepted. I owe taxes which are set to be auto debited on April 10. The Tax summary shows : Your return shows you have elected to pay your balance due of
XXXX  by Direct Debit using the following information:

Yet after completing the state efile, Turbo tax asked me to print and mail Form 1040-V. This does not make sense. I do not recall this happening in past years.

Furthermore, as an Advantage customer, it says it will charge me 20$ for state efile but it actually charged 25$! What's going on.

You can call customer service about the charges. Here is a link:  Turbo Tax Customer Service

If you want to check the debit date you specified, look on the filing instructions for your return.  It will tell you the debit date the IRS or State will deduct the payment.  If you did not print them out you can view them using the following steps:

TurboTax Online

To get back into your return after printing or e-filing, please follow these steps:

In TurboTax Online, sign into your account.

You should be on your Tax Home page.

Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents

Select 2023, and then select Add a State (you're not actually adding a state, this just gets you into the right menu).

Once you're in your return, you can navigate around as usual.

Click Tax Tools (in the black bar on the left of your screen) and then click select Print Center

Click Print, save or preview this year's return

TurboTax CD/Download

Go into Forms Mode by clicking on the Forms icon in the top right of the blue bar.

In the Forms in My Return list on the left, click Filing Inst.  [It's usually toward the bottom of the list.]  The form will appear on the right side of the screen.

You can view the form on the screen or you can print a copy by clicking the Print box at the bottom of the screen.

To return to the interview, click on the Step-By-Step icon in the top right of the blue bar.

I checked the Filing instructions in the summary. It shows that I have selected direct debit but date of withdrawl is blank. I don't know how that happened, as I distinctly entered April 10. It also says to mail the check by April 15. Is there a way to set the date now? My return is already efiled and accepted.

Thanks in advance for answering this.

Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about your payment.

You should also be able to set up the payment if it wasn't set up previously.

Thanks for that information. I looked it up. It suggests waiting 7-10 days after return was accepted before calling. Meanwhile, please have your developers look into how come the date got blanked out and how come that the smart check didn't catch this issue and the efile went through.

Its just another hassle I have to go through now to get corrected.

I went to the IRS website just now and logged into my account. There it shows in the pending payments, my scheduled payment for balance on April 10, 2025. So now we have the mystery on how and why did Turbo Tax lose the date in the Filing status summary. An important and serious software issue to look into.

Here's a clue for your developers to figure out the issue. I first efiled my federal taxes. They were accepted the same day after a few hours and in the Filing status, it clearly shows the date and amount of the auto debit scheduled.

Then a couple of hours later I efiled the state taxes. They did not have any payment or refund due. There was of course the other bug where Turbo tax charged me 25$ for the efile instead of 20$ for being an Advantage customer. The Filing status after the state efile has the date of my Fed tax payment blank!

Hopefully, this helps your developers in narrowing and fixing the issues.

Regards,

I would also add that for some reason the 1040-V form is not rendering correctly.  When you go to print out "Required Forms" it will provide a 2 page document to print.  The first is blank and the second has state information in it.

This also fails if you go straight into the forms and select a 1040-V from there and try to print it out.  Again - blank.  While not a required form, it is nice for organization purposes and double checking mailing addresses.

Seems like a simple and obvious bug to correct - all other forms have printed just fine.
