2024 Federal Tax Return 1099-R Disaster Withdrawal TurboTax won't let me file yet. WHY? WHEN?

My spouse and I both took Emergency withdrawals from our retirement plans (not Roth IRA) in 2024 electing for the IRS to take out Federal Taxes at that time.  FEMA declared our area as an effected/qualified area of Hurricane Milton.  We received our 1099-Rs and entered them into TurboTax.  When I got to the screen where it asks if this was as a result of Disaster Relief for 2024 I checked the 'Yes' choice.  TurboTax then stated that we could not file yet because they are awaiting an update that could save us more on our return.  When will this update be completed so we can file and receive our Tax Refund?

Please use this tool to look up when your individual tax forms will be available in TurboTax.  Select your TurboTax product, "1040 Individual", "Federal", and "8915".

Please see When will my individual tax forms be available in TurboTax? for additional details.

No update as of 2/13/2025. Frustrating to say the least.

Did you check the comment above by DanaB27? Should be able to file on Feb 20, if it’s accurate.

Form 8915 is now available. Yet we are still getting the error message  "You'll need to revisit this area "

Same thing here with me today. This is extremely frustrating. If I uncheck that it is a 2024 qualifying disaster, Turbo Tax allows me to get to the part where I can file my taxes. However, doing so is inaccurate and I'd be potentially selling myself short on my refund.  I'm at a loss of how to proceed.

Same roadblock as of 2/21/25. This is so wild how we're left hanging on this.

This is beyond unacceptable at this point. Likely my last year using this product.

Form 8915 is marked yes for both ready to print and ready to e-file but yet we’re all being given the same error message insinuating that choosing 2024 for the distribution year is incorrect, when the disaster occurred and the distribution was given in the year of 2024. Any new suggestions @DanaB27 ?

If you're using TurboTax Desktop, try running a Manual Update to see if that resolves your issue.

For TurboTax Online, close the program, clear your Cache and Cookies and step through the 1099-R section again.

You should be able to indicate a 2024 Disaster Distribution without error.

When the error pops up, unclick the BOX that is checked for QD 2024 - it’s right below the error message. It will remain selected in the lower document where it has the bulleted option of 2023 or 2024. This cleared the error and allowed me to e-file! Hope this helps!

That does not help at all since this was for a QD in 2024.

I am using the desktop version of Turbo Tax Deluxe 2024.  I did the manual update as you suggested.  It did not work.  After the update complete a message box came up that said "This program might not have installed correctly" and 2 options:

1 Install using compatibility settings.

2. This program installed correctly

I checked see if the program was working. It was not. So I installed again using compatibility settings.  That still did not fix the issue.  This is an apparently a bug in your software.  Please get this corrected.

The Computer is a Dell Precision 3460 Running Windows Professional 11 Version 23H2.  Core I7-12700, 32GB RAM.   OS build 22631.4860

It kept it selected in the lower document that appears below. And in the review it had the correct amount of distribution received for the 2024 tax year.

Please explain in detail what you mean if you've found a fix or work around. Thank you

When you do the review and it comes up with the message saying “we can’t file your taxes just yet” - right underneath that is a box that is checked that says QD 2024. Uncheck that box. And it will let you finish up. When I scrolled down to the other form below that has the circles next to 2023 and 2024, it will still show that 2024 is selected, which indicates they are still getting the accurate information that the distribution year was 2024, not 2023.

If this is really a fix, then shouldn't Turbo Tax automatically include form 8915F in your return? when i look at the list of forms included in my return, form 8915F is still missing meaning the IRS is not getting the complete info. I thought form 8915 MUST be filed if a distribution is taken. Can someone from TurboTax please confirm that this fix is risk free.

This is still not working in the Desktop version even after today's update. When are you going to get this corrected?  I have tried the manual update and no that does not work.

Help please!

I updated today (2/27/2025) and now the 2024 Qualified Disaster Retirement Plan Distribution question (which said the capability to enter the data soon) is gone! Only 2021, 2022, 2023 are mentioned and we don't even get the coming soon message!

The program is actually regressing in capability!!

The 8915-F form has been showing as available on TurboTax's website for a while now. Please elevate this issue, it seems to have fallen off the software team's radar!!

Turbo Tax has rested on its laurels too long now.  This company is nothing more than a corporate machine thats lost touch with the customers  who have been with them from the start. Customers like myself.  Tomorrow is March 1st and since I've posted this issue, not a single Turbo Tax expert has addressed it.  2024 was a year of significant natural disasters. Get it together Turbo Tax. You owe your customers both an apology and a refund for a sub standard product and nonexistent customer service.

I've been trying unsuccessfully for over a month. I also tried the work around of unchecking a box and it just keeps bumping me back to that page to resolve it. I desperately need to finalize my tax return.

When are these forms going to be available? This is ridiculous, this is the last time I'm filling with TurboTax. This same thing happened last year!!!!!
