Has anyone run across Turbo tax shutting down when trying to open on a Mac.

This issue started this month. I last was allowed to access in March.

What OS X version are you using?   See this FAQ on crash issues with 2015 desktop TurboTax for Mac:

You probably updated your Mac to OSX 10.13.4 or later.   It is something that Apple broke - not TurboTax.

TurboTax 2014 and 2015 crash on Mac 10.13.4 (and later).

That is a known issue that seems to have been created by Apple with a change in OSX 10.13.4. There was no problem with OSX 10.13.3.

Since this is not a defect in the TurboTax software, but is due to a change that Apple made which causes an internal Apple java script function to crash while reading an embedded java script component in the TurboTax application, TurboTax will not be issuing any update to the TurboTax software. ( An update would be useless anyway since the software must be running in order to apply an update and the software will not run at all.)

However, TurboTax has issued a workaround to remove the java script from the TurboTax application so that the Apple software will not crash.

[UPDATE: as of May, 2019, TurboTax has dropped all support for the 2014 tax year. The "Secure Print Server" that was *required* to be able to print or make a PFD for 2014 ONLY no longer exists, so even you can get 2014 to run, it will be impossible to print anything]

Sorry, but the links for fixing 2014 and 2015 no longer exist because TurboTax has dropped all support for those years.  Only 2016 and later is supported.

So what do we do if we need to open a 2015 file to save as pdf or for amendment reasons?

2015 is beyond the 3 year statute of limitations for amending for an refund which is why it is no longer supported.  TurboTax only support the last 3 years.

If you did not save a hard copy or pdf then your best bet is to get a free transcript from the IRS.

You can also obtain a free transcript of past returns from the IRS:
https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

You can also get an exact copy of past tax returns from the IRS by using form 4506 for a $50 fee per tax return.

Would a PC version still work?  Would it be possible to run an old PC version of TT,

read the tt2015 file, and go from there?

It's doubtful.  Even if you could locate a 2015 CD, the CD is the early version before all forms are finalized and is useless without updates that probably are no longer available for 2015, and if it contains a state, the state software must be installed before the .tax2015 file could be opened - 2015 state software is not available.

Don't need state.

Just something that can read a tt2014 and tt2015 file.

When "dropping" support for something, you can just freeze what you have.

and not delete the old stuff.
