1099-MISC not showing on Income Summary

Hello

1099-MISC amount is not showing on Wages & Income Summary (Under 1099-MISC and Other Common Income column).

It is there for 2022 but not 2023.

The information has flowed onto the appropriate schedules - the same as last year.

Why is this not showing?  This is the only thing preventing me from submitting my taxes.  I have run 'Federal Review' and 'Smart Check'  several times and it indicates everything is entered correctly/no missing information.

I feel very anxious about submitting my taxes with this not resolved.  Thank you.

It may fine from a filing one's taxes perspective, but I don't think it's fine from a software perspective. I have the same issue where on the summary it only shows a total of $39, even though if I click on that it shows that charge plus rental property income of $4280.  I think the 1099-MISC Summary total should equal what shows on that line in the 2023 Income Summary.

The following steps will allow you to check your Form 1040 to see if it's showing up as part of your income.  This allows you to scroll through the 1040 and all schedules. If you don't see it there please update in this post and we will help.

Using the Tax Tools:

  • To find Tools:
    • Sign into your TurboTax account and open or continue your return.
    • Select Tax Tools in the left menu.
    • You'll find Tools beneath Tax Tools.
    • Select View Tax Summary
    • Select Preview My 1040 (left)

G'morning Diane,

Thank you for this response.

The 1099-MISC is for rental income (and I'm using Turbotax Premier)

Could you please confirm what forms I should look at?

Thank you,

Michelle

Whether you entered it through the rental income section or if you entered it directly on the 1099-MISC and selected Rental income from the rental of real estate (Schedule E), it should flow on the Schedule E, and then the net profit from your rental activity would transfer to the Schedule 1, line 5.  You can scroll to the schedules through the preview above.

If rental income was not selected check out Schedule 1, line 8.

Hi Diane

Thank you for this.

I can confirm the 1099 information is on Schedule E and Schedule 1, line 5.

I just want to confirm that it's fine it's *not showing* on the Income Summary page (Wages & Income tab) in the section 1099-MISC and Other Common Income.

I'm assuming it should not be there as the 1099 is associated with rental income - but could you please confirm this is correct?

Thank you again,

Michelle

Yes, that is correct. It is fine that the income does not show on the income summary as long as it is properly reported on the Schedule E and Schedule 1.

Great Diane, thank you for that confirmation and for your support.

Kind regards

This is absurd. I am having the same issue and now my "summary page" is a "here are some numbers that have nothing to do with your actual tax info" page.

Looking back, this is a bug that has been around for several tax years.

I gotta say I agree ... this is absolute bull**bleep**.    To have a known problem, possibly for several years, and not fix it?   I've mostly been a TurboTax fan, but this is beyond stupid.
I'm looking at the same problem ... entered a 1099-MISC, nothing will show on the income summary, even though I have completed the process.  I've tried deleting and re-entering ... same result.  If I go to "update" or "edit" the entry ... it's all there ... the information doesn't get transferred back to the summary.
What the heck is wrong with these people?

Thanks to the folks in this thread who advised to check the actual forms ... and yean, we're good there, so I can go ahead and file ... but this is stupid.

I can fill out the 1099-Misc worksheet, but when I look at the Sch C nothing is there. It is not migrating over from the worksheet.

I am not filling out my taxes online. I downloaded TurboTax to my PC.

If you are filling out a 1099-MISC, it may have went to Schedule E depending on how the income was reported or even to 8z on Schedule 1, as other income.

If this is self-employment income, it should have been reported on 1099-NEC.  Did you select that it involved work like you main job after entering your 1099-MIsc?  If not, you will need to in order to generate Schedule C.

I can confirm that in 2024 it is still a bug!  I see $0 listed for my 1099, but indeed, I've entered the information and it's there in the forms.

This is the purpose of the income summary, which is one of the main pages in TT.  Yet it fails to do it's primary and basic job of displaying totals.

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” *
  3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  4. Please provide the Token Number (including the dash) that was generated in the response.

*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)

When will this be fixed?

Surely adding numbers and registering them on the Income Summary form should be de rigueur for you folks. I'm experiencing the same as others - the entry 1099-MISC in the "Year 2024 Summary" form shows a non-zero amount for 2023 (correct) and $0 for 2024. Pressing the "Update" button for that entry clearly shows non-zero amounts that I've entered for 2024.

This forces me to think "Where else have they made errors?" as well as "Do I want to use TurboTax next year?"

Really guys?

What is the nature of the income that you are reporting on the IRS form 1099-MISC?

When you print or view your full tax return, are you able to view the income reported on the IRS form 1099-MISC?

In TurboTax Online, you may print or view your full tax returns prior to filing after you have paid for the software.

  • View the entries down the left side of the screen at Tax Tools.
  • Select Print Center.
  • Select Print, save or preview this year's return.

In TurboTax Desktop, you may view the tax return to selecting FORMS in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

The income is visible on the full return and as further confirmation, total tax owed/refund is affected by it, so it's definitely being entered.  However, it is not reported in the summary page, whose main purpose is to report the totals.  The "nature of the income"?  - I receive a couple of 1099's. nothing exotic.

You've got confirmation from multiple users across multiple years that this is a bug.

I am in a panic. I am experiencing the same thing. I enter values and the summary will not update. Income shows “needs review” despite it being completed, 1099 income shows 2022 but 2023 is blank even though they are entered and tabulated (I assume since it changed) in the due summary. It’s happening on every summary now. Ive updated, reset, closed etc. I really dont want to start over with hours and hours in this but I may have to.

Is there a fix to this!!? This is the desktop version since there is no online version available.

Ignore that summary screen, keep preparing your return.   The Needs Review message will not prevent e-file.   @DestinBroker

Print or preview your tax returns before you submit them!
