I am using Turbo Tax Deluxe. Am trying to enter info from a 1099-B I received from Wells Fargo Clearing. Turbo asked for a description-there isn't one. Turbo asked for date sold and date acquired-there isn't any of that info. It asks for the sales category-that info is not on the 1099. The only info I have is in 1d (total proceeds and total cost or other basis) and 1g (Wash sale loss disallowed). Seems Turbo won't let me proceed without the missing info.
You can get the description and sale date from Wells Fargo if you don't know it, but you can use your own description of what was sold. You can use various for the acquisition date but you have to enter a date during 2019 for the sold date. Use unknown for the category and no entry for the type. Wash sales are short-term. Then click on I'll enter additional information on my own to enter your disallowed wash sale. There will be a box to check that says Allow me to continue with incomplete info, check that, and then choose I'll enter additional info on my own again.
We use the dates you bought and sold the items to figure out your holding period (how long you owned them). There are different tax rates for a short-term period (one year or less) and a long-term period (more than one year). Contact Wells Fargo if you are unsure about anything on your form.
