Why standard deduction is only $8,980 for single filer? 

sorry I put the post in the general discussion, I think it is better to be here. So add the link. Not sure how to change it from 'Get your taxes done' to 'Deductions & credits'.

The standard deduction for a dependent is not the full $13,850.  It is the greater of $1250 or her earned income plus $400. 

 

It sounds like you had $8580 of earned income ($8580 + 400 = $8980).
