Medical expense, for example, only creates a deduction for the amount of expense in excess of 10% of your adjusted gross income (7.5 % if 65 or older.) There are other limited deductions.
You can look at your Schedule A to see what your deductions would actually total up to.
Click on Forms in the upper right, then click on the schedule A to open it.
If no Schedule A appears in your Forms list, click on the Open Form icon right above the list of forms in your return.
Type Schedule A in the entry field right at the top then click on the words Schedule A that appear just below..
