Never received Economic Impact Payment 3 after filling my 2021 taxes - IRS account says I'm eligible for $1,400

Hello everybody,

My wife and I got married on November of 2021 and filled our taxes jointly at the beginning of March through TurboTax. We were eligible to claim the Economic Impact Payment 3 and correctly completed that part of the filing. As of today, neither of us have received the payment. We received our normal tax return within about 1.5 weeks of e-filing. I logged into my IRS account and saw that I'm eligible for that $1,400 amount but it seems like it was never sent out. Do we need to just keep waiting or is there something we need to do?

Thank you!

If you indicated on your 2021 federal tax return that you did NOT receive the 3rd stimulus payment, then the Recovery Rebate Credit would have entered on your Form 1040 Line 30.  The credit would be included in your federal tax refund or it would reduce the amount of the taxes owed.

Look at your Form 1040 Line 30 to see if an amount of either $1,400 or $2,800 was entered.

Look at your 2021 Form 1040.   Does it show $1400 on line 30?   If the $1400 is there then that was the recovery rebate credit and it was added to your refund as shown on line 35a.   It does not come as a separate check.   If you did not answer the recovery rebate questions correctly and get the $1400 on your 2021 return you will need to amend and claim the credit on a Form 1040X.

I had no idea it wasn't sent as a separate check - that makes much more sense. Just took a look at our return. For some reason Line 30 is blank! So would we need to amend it and put $2,800 on that line since we are married filing jointly?

Looks like that line is blank. Do I need to amend it in that case?

You will need to amend the 2021 tax return for the Recovery Rebate Credit that you are eligible to receive.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a 2021 return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-return/help/how-do-i-amend-my-2021-return/00/2544441
