Is child tax credit and additional child tax credit same thing or is it two additional payments added per child?

No, they aren't the same and no you can't get both the $2,000 Child Tax Credit and the $1,600 Additional Child Tax Credit for each qualifying dependent child. The Child Tax Credit is a credit of up to $2,000 ‌that you can get for each qualified dependent child that you claim on your tax return.  The Additional Child Tax Credit of up to $1,600 for each qualified dependent child if you are qualified for the full $2,000 Child Tax Credit.
