Importing ItsDeductible Data Into TT 2024

Importing didn't work in TT Deluxe 2023.  Suspect it's cuz Intuit expected to jettison ItsDeductible that year so their IT wizards didn't bother themselves with integrating the function though, as a PR play, they reversed themselves on ending ID, hence punishing diehard ID users for their rebellion.  Super longtime TT user here who's had it up to here with ever increasing prices coupled with vexing never fixed bugs such as this one and that goofy resolution bug.  I might give Intuit just one more chance to redeem themselves if they can assure me the ID import will work with TT Deluxe 2023 (for Windows).  Wonder if Intuit's IT gurus were recruited from the crowd that brought us the Obamacare website.

TurboTax is working to improve the process, but in the meantime, please only use alphabet letters and spaces in your ItsDeductible descriptions. Removing any special characters, including quotes, apostrophes, etc. will allow for a successful import.

I have an ItsDecuctible account and using the 2023 TurboTax Premier desktop edition for Windows.  Just downloaded my donations from the website.

To enter charitable donations -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Deductions and Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Scroll down to Charitable Donations
On Import from ItsDeductible Online, click on the start or update button

Or enter charitable donation in the Search box located in the upper right of the online program screen. Click on Jump to charitable donation

Thanks for the ray of hope.  Didn't work like that -- like it was supposed to -- last year.  Hoping it works like that this year -- but I'll be down there in the Deluxe cheap seats.

Got my years all mixed up.  Duh.  Sorry.  Worried about Intuit's 2023 tax year software vs their sad 2022 tax year software.

@DoninGA  I'm using the same TT version as you (except for Mac).  All of the steps you laid out are there, except "On Import from ItsDeductible Online, click on the start or update button".  That one simply doesn't exist for me. I've been using TT and ItsDeductible for many years and really don't want to re-enter all of the work I've done in ID.  Any idea of a work-around?

@thatericguy The selections in the TurboTax program for the various sections should be the same whether using the Windows software or the Mac software for TurboTax.

Unless the development team for the Mac software made a mistake.  Or there may have been a software update that you did not get (doubtful).  So just to be sure check to see if you have any program updates available.

This is what you should be seeing in the Deductions & Credits section for Charitable Donations -

If your software is up to date then the only suggestion would be to contact TurboTax support to see if they can provide a solution.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for contacting support - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/turbotax-phone-number/L0Od33nMQ_US_en_US?uid=lfgviwbm

Support can also be reached by messaging them on these pages https://www.facebook.com/turbotax/ and https://twitter.com/TeamTurboTax

It's not just the desktop TurboTax version that's broken. I've been using the online version for almost a decade and the ItsDeductible import has always worked ... until now. I contacted support and after 2 hours, was told that my options were to try to use TurboTax desktop or try the online version again tomorrow.  Said they couldn't create an engineering ticket because not enough people have complained yet. If they aren't capturing bug tickets, how would they know there weren't a million people complaining about it???

Here is how another user was successful:

Left side menu > select Tax Tools > choose "Tools" > pop up screen "Tools Center", select "Topic List" > Your Deductions & Credits > "Tax Breaks" scroll down screen to "Import ItsDeductible Online". I hope this helps

I was able to find it and got it to work in the Online version:

"Tax Tools" in sidebar --> "Tools"-->"Topic Search"-->type "itsdeductible"-->brings you to the charity page, click "yes".

What left side menu? There is none

The left-side menu is in TurboTax Online.

If you're using TurboTax Desktop, there's a link under Charitable Donations in the Deductions & Credits section to import from It's Deductible.

what is with turbo tax 2024!? I have always tracked my donations to charity, both money and items and it’s deductible throughout the year. There is no option to import and it wants me to enter every single item for each donation I made like I did throughout the year within TurboTax itself. This makes no sense whatsoever. What a waste of time and money

Thank you - I was originally just using TT online and forgot to download the deluxe version I paid for! I did not see it in the online version but did on the downloaded deluxe version. My bad- thank you again!

I can’t get ItsDeductible to import into my Deductions and Credits on my TurboTax.  I get no data or account found! I’m sooo frustrated!

Don't bother calling for support. Spent almost 2 hours across 2 different calls and basically they just walked through the various TurboTax screens over and over again. Basically refused to create a bug/issue ticket with the technical teams and told me basically I could either switch to the desktop version of TurboTax or cross my fingers and hopefully it gets fixed even though no tickets to fix were actually created.

If you're using TurboTax Online, close the program, and clear your Cache and Cookies, between attempts.  Make sure you're on the 2024 tab in It's Deductible.  It might be opening to the wrong year.

Have you had any luck?  I was on the phone today with TT for 3 1/2 hours.  We exhausted their possible fixes.  They told me I’m going to have to enter everything by hand.  I REALLY don’t want to as we do a lot of item donations.  I am using the desktop version on my Mac.

Nope no luck here either :(. Really sucks that this does not work or interface with TT. I am not sure how some people are able to get work.

This is kinda comical. Spent multiple hours over multiple calls on the phone with them as well and they refused to create a bug/ticket for the engineering team because I was the only one encountering this apparently. They also told me the solution was to go buy the desktop version of TT but sounds like that doesn't work either.

They basically blew me off and I had to add my donations manually. This really is the worst customer service in the history of customer service. Wasting my time on the phone doing the same thing over and over again, denying there is an issue, telling me that I'm the only one with the issue despite not having a way to actually track the number of users who have the same issue, and then telling me I have to go buy another one of their products (TT desktop) to resolve the issue even though they had no way to verify that would actually resolve the issue.
