On the details page - I'm asked to compare sales and income tax... there's an option for "try sales tax deduction anyway" and "continue" but when I go back to the main page I see "sales tax" and a number that wasn't on the details page -- and is much lower than the local income tax deduction. So wondering how can I 'switch' to the local income tax deduction??
To change from the sales taxes paid deduction to the state and local income tax deduction in TurboTax Online:
If the TurboTax Online navigation described above doesn't look like what you're experiencing, see the TurboTax Help article Why does the TurboTax navigation menu look different for me?.
Thanks! I followed these instructions, but I'm not sure if it resolved the issue. I still see "Sales Tax $0" on the summary screen - so I can't tell if TurboTax zeroed out the sales tax and/or defaulted back to the standard deduction.
If the program does not use Sales Tax, it will show as zero, even if you entered an amount.
To check, go to "View Forms" and look at the "Tax & Int Wks"
Line 1g shows the amount of sales tax the program was given.
HERE is a link for how to view forms online
You can look for Schedule A if Itemizing
You can also look at Form 1040 line 12 to see if you took the Standard Deduction or Itemized.
Anytime you go back to Deductions & Credits
Scroll down and click "Done with Deductions"
Click Continue
The next screen will give you a summary
That summary shows which deduction method the program took
Continue to the next screen for an option to change the method
