I live overseas and am filling out Form 2555, but there seems to be a glitch on line 26. It will not accept my foreign earned income.

I am using Turbotax premier.

Thank you again for sharing the data file.  As you suspected, it is your wife's Form 2555 that is causing a problem.  I was able to delete the form in TurboTax and that resolved the issue.  To delete the file in TurboTax online follow these steps:

  • Login to your TurboTax online account
  • Continue into your return by selecting "Continue where I left off".
  • In the menu bar on the right click on Tools and then Tax Tools. 
  • In the menu that pops up select "Delete a Form"
  • Scroll down and delete the form 2555-S 
  • Confirm that you wish to delete the form and re-run the review.

To verify, you followed these steps below but it doesn't show the correct foreign income on line 26:

 

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account 
  2. Click on "Search" on the top right and type “foreign income”
  3. Click on “Jump to foreign income”
  4. Continue through the questions

Or it might be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2021" file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: 

  1. From the left menu select Tax Tools. 
  2. Then select Tools below Tax Tools. 
  3. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.  
  4. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent. 
  5. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number. 
  6. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.  

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

For some more information, it looks like the issue is with my wife's Form 2555.

We all live overseas, but my wife earned some minor income in the US during our summer holiday.   She does not earn income overseas.  While I earned income only overseas, and not in the US, apart from a rental property.  It may be that I am not entering information correctly in other sections like Personal Info, and this is impacting this Form 2555?
