I did not have an HSA account in 2023. Turbotax app is reading some money as HSA from Box 12a of W-2. Box 12a has the code "W" and some amount of money ($83).

I did not see this code in 2022's W2  and did not receive a prompt from the TurboTax app, either, last year about an HSA.

Usually, your HSA contribution is reported in box 12 of your W-2 with the code W (Company Contributions to Health Savings Account.  TurboTax automatically records this amount in the 1099-SA, HSA, MSA section.  Code W reports the combined HSA contributions from you and your employer.  If you had no distributions, then just enter 0 when asked by the program.

If you have questions about the contributions or about whether or not you have an HSA account, you should speak with your HR department at work.

Code W is for employer’s contribution to an HSA. If you think you don’t have one ask your employer for a corrected W-2.

Did your employer deposit the $83 in early 2023 as part of your 2022 HSA contribution?  If so, that $83 should have been reported on your 2022 tax return by indicating that your employer told you about other contributions and entering the $83 as a contribution for 2022 made in 2023.
