How do I edit Form 4797 - sales of business property

May I talk to a technical support person?

I am not able to edit form 4797 with the instructions given. I spoke with turbo tax and she had me delete some forms; this did not work either. I have tried to delete and then add and that only doubles things.

I look forward to hearing from someone in order to adjust my cost basis on sold property.

Thank you,

Linda Kent

We don't have the ability to reach out to you over the phone in this forum, you would have to use the help option in TurboTax to do that while you are working on your return.

You would likely need to make an adjustment to the cost basis of the sale in the section where you entered it. It may not be possible to make the adjustment by going directly to the form 4797.

You enter investment sales in the Wages and Income section of TurboTax, then Investments Sales, then Stocks, cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, etc...

I have same problem with TT Online - when I "go to" sale of other property for Form 4797 as you indicate, my prior entry I want to revise does not show so I'm unable to edit. It remains part my return however ....how can I correct or at least delete it?

It depends. If you do not  have a sale of business property in 2024, you can delete your 4797 by using the steps below. Select the correct link based on the product you are using.

You'll need to delete this form 4797 --------------------.

  • If you're using TurboTax Online software and need to delete a form, click here.
