How do I report a home office for my W-2 income? How do I assess what I can deduct for working from home?

I have entered my W-2 info under Personal/Wages and Salaries, but I do not see where/how to add info that work from home.  I have worked from home all of 2015.  I have the qualifying space that is set up with computer, printer, filing cabinet and is used exclusively for my W-2 job.

If you work at home for your employer's convenience and you use your workspace regularly and exclusively for business, you may be able to deduct home office expense.

For more details, see: Can I take the home office deduction?

Work from home is an employee business expense.

To deduct employee business expenses, you must have enough itemized deductions (ie. Medical, mortgage interest, property taxes, charitable giving, ect) to exceed your Standard Deduction. If you itemize, your deduction is limited to  the extent that it exceeds 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income.

So, you may not gain a tax benefit from the deduction.

To report employee business expenses in TurboTax:

  • Click My Account (Top right of your screen).

  • Select Tools.

  • In the pop up window, select Topic Search.

  • In the search bar, type in 2106

  • Highlight it and select GO, and follow the prompts
