How do I enter my property tax? The entry form for 2018 property tax will not accept an entry.

The screen for entry of "Property tax on your main home" will not accept any entry.  With no entry in that field or any other fields on that screen I get to a screen that says:  "We need a bit more info to see if you qualify".  This is followed by a graphic which says :Checking for Property ( Real Estate) Tax Deduction.  This is followed by a link labeled: "Why don't you know what my property deduction is?"  Clicking this link takes me back to the screen where I cannot enter the info I would like to enter.

When I run the check at the end of the Deductions page the result is my being informed that I entered home mortgage interest but not property tax expense.  Answering "Yes" takes me back to the screen where I am unable to enter my property tax.

FYI, this may be a moot point in that I may use the standard deduction.  However, I want to be sure all relevant data is in Turbotax for 2018.

I submitted a similar question about a week ago which has apparently been deleted or archived.  I don't believe that I did either of those actions.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

You can enter your property tax on the same screen that you report your mortgage interest.  Please follow these steps:

  1. Click on Federal Taxes > Deductions & Credits.
  2. In the Your Home section, click on the Start/Revisit box next to Mortgage Interest, Refinancing, and Insurance.
  3. If you haven't entered any mortgage information yet, just proceed through the screens, entering the requested information on your first mortgage.  If you have entered mortgage information, you will see the Home loan deduction summary.  Click Edit on the line for the lender.
  4. On the screen, Let's get the details from your [lender] 1098.  You can enter your property taxes in the box labeled Property (real estate taxes) paid.
  5. Click Continue when you're finished.

If you do not have mortgage interest to report, follow these steps to enter only your property taxes:

  1. Click on Federal Taxes > Deductions & Credits.
  2. In the Your Home section, click on the Start/Revisit box next to Property Taxes.
  3. On the next screen, enter the property taxes in the box labeled Additional property (real estate) taxes.

Even though you may using the standard deduction on your federal return, it's a good idea to enter any possible deductions--they may come in handy on your state return.

Thank you for your very rapid response.  This appears it will work.  However, I fixed it another way.  My method was by going to the Tax and Int Worksheet Form and entering the info on that screen.  I believe the problem may have been because I had entered the data on a supporting worksheet for 2017.  When I tried to enter my prop tax on the Form, the supporting details screen popped up and allowed entry.  FYI, I had tried to access supporting details on the Step-by-Step screen prior to my inquiry but without success there.  FYI following your instructions I was informed when I got to the screen for details from my lender, there was a message that I had already entered property tax.  Thanks again for the response!
