Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>You and Your Family>Child and Dependent Care Credit

You will need the Tax ID or Social Security number of the childcare provider.

The childcare credit is not a refund.  It can reduce your taxes owed.  If you were self-employed, but showed a loss, you will not receive the credit.

The person receiving the care had to be 12 or under or qualified as mentally or physically disabled. To claim the childcare credit you need to be filing as Head of Household or Married Filing Jointly. (NOT married filing separately)

If your child was born in 2019 make sure you say the child lived with you all year. The credit is a percentage of your expenses based on your AGI (the higher the income, the lower the percentage)  You must provide the Social Security number for each child you are claiming, and the Social Security number or Tax ID for each care provider.  You can claim a maximum of $6000 in expenses for 2 or more dependents.

In the case of divorced or never-married parents—only the custodial parent can use the childcare credit.

You can see the amount of the childcare credit on your Form 1040

Child and Dependent Care Credit line 12     (comes from Schedule 3 Form 2441)

I entered my childcare expenses that the daycare gave me.

Instead of 4372.00 that reflects on the record they gave me I accidently put 4732.00 so I went up 400 bucks by mistake. Will the IRS catch and correct that for me or will it cause a fill blown review?  Hopfully I can just amend it right after even though I think 400 bucks wont change anything as to the amount of credit I got back.

You will definitely want to prepare the amended tax return with TurboTax when it is available- if it does not change the amount of the credit you do not have to file but if it does, it is always best to correct the tax return and return anything you would owe.

Is there a way I can go into my original return and plug in the correct numbers and see if it makes a difference?
