I entered home mortgage interest, and it shows on the worksheet, but 0 appears on that line in Sch A. I am taking the standard federal deduction, but the 0 home interest payment carries to the California forms, where I should be able to use the home mortgage interest deduction.
Even if you didn't get your home mortgage interest deduction on Schedule A because you didn't have enough itemized deductions to exceed your standard deduction, TurboTax will automatically transfer the itemized deductions you entered in the Federal return to the California return. Complete the California return interview and answer any applicable questions about items on your Federal return that California may treat differently.
California Schedule CA will display all of the items on your Federal return that result in either an Addition or a Subtraction on your California return. The California standard deductions are lower (Single or married/Registered Domestic Partner (RDP) filing separately $5,202; Married/RDP filing jointly, head of household, or qualifying widow(er) $10,404) than the Federal standard deductions.
Check your entries in the Federal return to confirm that they are all correct. For example, if you entered that your home loan isn't secured by your home, the interest wouldn't be deductible. See here for more information from the IRS.
You can preview your returns before filing to find out how your taxes were calculated. See here for details.
There must be an error in TurboTax software since mortgage interest added in "Easy Steps" does not transfer to Schedule A even if I am eligible for itemized deduction but just inserting mortgage interest in Schedule A manually, by hand , Turbo tax accept that and show no errors at review. Again TurboTax software must have a bug
I'm having the same issue. I tried deleting the mortgage information and re-entering, but still not showing up on Schedule A. Software will not let me adjust schedule A manually, Is this a bug that will be fixed?
I have the same issue. The mortgage interest does not carry to Schedule A no matter how often entered and whether or not the standard or itemized deductions apply. I cannot override - if I override I cannot electronically file. This bug need to be fixed!
TaurboTax hs a note that I found they they KNOW THEY have an issue transferring allowable mortgage interest to Schedule A. There is a signup to get updates from TurboTax as to timing or when corrected,
I signed up for notifications today, but I have heard nothing. A call to TurboTax Resolutions was also without an answer/update on timing for when Mortgage Interest transfer will be fixed.
I am sorry that I do not have the TT link for notification sign-up.

This is a new problem, because the earlier returns I did correctly transferred Mortgage Interest Deduction from worksheet to Schedule A. Odd, but who knows why. TT say only affecting some versions. I am using Premier FYI. So that may at least one of the versions being effected.
You can override, but will you be able to file with an active Override
I am using Deluxe version and had the problem , but was able to insert manually into the worksheet. No terrors at both federal and state reviews.

I am having this issue as well. Mortgage interest isnt transferring to sch A or being reflected in the tax owed. I see that it is a known problem but when will it be resolved? Obviously, it is time sensitive as I intended to file my taxes this weekend. Can I sign up for updates at least?
Somewhere in thread there was a hyperlink to sign up for updates. I suggest scrolling.
If you mortgage is simple, that is not subject to any limitations I suspect you could enter interest deduction on Schedule A through OVERRIDE process (right click on box *a on Schedule and override). I do not know if TurboTax will let you file with an override.
Probably will also work with limited mortgage interest deductions from worksheet, but didn't have any in family this year

Go to this TurboTax support FAQ to sign up to be notified when this problem has been corrected - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/mortgage-loan/mortgage-interest-flowing-schedule/L1bVtJVuN_US_en_US
I had issues too with the checkbox with the limited. My principal is under $750k but had refi in 2020 and had no issues for 2020 and 2021 tax season but I can't figure out its checked for Yes on the worksheet since step by step never asked me about using the refi money for spending outside the house principal.
Thanks for tip on override I never knew you could do that but I haven't submitted my taxes yet
Received just now from TT:

Looks like it's fixed. Thanks this was driving my bonkers for hours last night
Just tried to do update and found my version was up to date and it still will not transfer my mortgage interest to schedule A. I am using home and business.
Try deleting the 1098 and re-entering it. And make sure you are entering it from the Home Mortgage Interest interview in the Deductions and Credits section of Home & Business. To get there, search for 1098 and use the Jump to 1098 link in the search results. You will be taken to the 1098 summary page where you can delete the already entered form and then re-enter the information. I just added a new 1098 and TurboTax calculated the limited interest and transferred the correct amount to Schedule A.
Can I Deduct My Mortgage Interest? @cyndimat
Don't have any new returns so cannot be of much help; all of mine transferred after fix.
If you haven't signed out of TurboTax try signing out and restarting to see if an update will cure issue,
I am using TT Deluxe, totally updated, and this bug still exists. Terrifying actually, because I stumbled upon it accidentally, and makes me worried what else is not getting counted.
To be clear, my entered mortgage interest was showing up in Ste-by-Step, but NOT on the actual form and in the calculations. This was important because I am very close to exceeding the standard deduction and was entering a dummy charitable deduction to see how close. I knew something was wrong when I could donate an extra $12k without any impact.
The "fix" did work, i.e. delete the entire entry and re-follow the step-by-step, but this has really shaken my confidence in TurboTax, which I have used for 20+ years, given this is a significant bug and filing day is in 2 days.
I have the same problem. On the federal return I put the Mortgage Interest paid., about 8,000. I am itemizing my deductions. The loan is secured by the property. The mortgage is a refinance 1-13-21, and the home is worth about 1 million. The interest amount is right there on the deductibles worksheet, and yet when you complete the program, and preview the return, there is no entry under #8 on Schedule A. I have gone back to the beginning of the worksheet multiple times, it is not ever credited. ON the California 540 return there is a Deductible Home mortgage Interest Worksheet, and they pick up the correct mortgage interest ,work it though their system, and come up with a total of 522 deductible interest...big whoop!! I am 76 and getting more grey hair over this. Without this almost 8,000 deduction I owe tax, with it I would get a refund. I have spent hour after hour after hour going back over the program....but nothing changes....I am beyond exhausted and stressed. HELP ..I
think that the program is defective, and I will have to go buy a new download and start all over..
I just put in a long post on the same issue...I am using Deluxe....in previous years I did use the premium and did not have a problem.....it really makes me angry to read the long line of people posting that have the same problem and that there is evidence that TT KNOWS about it and is not fixing it...might be time to go to my friendly local ABC channel and their consumer affairs guy to stir stuff up..I just hate to think that I have to go buy another download after trying for hours and hours, which I will never get back, and start all over again.
