Hi, found something strange in 2021 returns. 8812 Child credit in 2021 was less than it is for 2022. 3 kids, 1 under 17, 2 over 17. 1k in 2021 3k 2022. Any ideas? Thanks

The tax law changed.   The child tax credit reverted back to the "old" rules.   If your child was older than 16 at the end of 2022, you do not get the child tax credit; you get the $500  credit for other dependents.  If you have a child younger than 17, the child tax credit is $2000, but the refundable portion is a maximum amount of $1500.

Look at your 2022 Form 1040 to see the child-related credits you received
