In TurboTax Online, consider following these steps to import or manually enter an IRS form W-2.

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • Click the down arrow to the right of Wages & Salaries.
  • Click to the right of Wages and Salaries (W-2).
  • Enter the employer ID from your W-2.  Select Continue.
  • At the screen How would you like to add your W-2, you may upload a PDF, JPG or PNG of the W-2 or take a picture of the W-2 with a smartphone.
  • You may also select Type it in myself to enter the form manually.

Income reported on the IRS form 1042-S may be reported on the Federal 1040 income tax return.  What is the income code that is reported?

To clarify, is the W2 and 1042S for the same income from the same employer?

My income from Jan-Sept is in W-2 and Oct-Dec is in 1042-S. It's the same employer.

W-2 is straightforward, and I have reported the 1042-S on less common income/miscellaneous income/other reportable income and indicated the amounts withheld under Deductions and Credits/Estimated Tax Payments/Other income taxes/Withholding taxes not reported in W-2, as instructed by Turbo Tax customer service.

Just need a confirmation to know it's correct.

Yes, you have reported this correctly.
