Forgot to deduct energy star hot water heater in 2022

I forgot to report an energy star designated hot water heater in 2022!  The cost + installation was $1,140, so I left the 10% credit on the table.

 

Given that the credit has increased in 2023, what would be the best way to address this?  Should I amend my 2022 tax return?

You cannot take the credit on your 2023 tax return because you did not buy the water heater in 2023.  If you want to take the credit you will have to amend your 2022 tax return.  For instructions on how to amend your 2022 return see the following TurboTax Help Article:  How do I amend my federal tax return for a prior year?
