Curious if anyone knows does federal need to be approved before state can be approved? Also if I'm claiming the eic I know federal will hold u til the 15th but can it be approved before then
No, states can approve a filed return before the Federal is approved by the IRS.
Yes, the delay of refunds due to the Earned Income Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit only applies to the release of the refund. The returns should still be processed as normal.
Note: E-filed state returns will not be accepted until your Federal return is accepted. This is the first step to e-filing, approval is after the return is processed by the government(s).
Thank you so much very helpful and happy to know I don't not need to wait for federal
My state refund this past week. Does this mean my federal refund will be accepted, and will it be soon?
and yes, I efiled. but my fed return still says processing. My state says it was accepted and is on its way.
How come i dont have a status bar and it says my return is being processed ....i already got my state back a long time ago..
So thats not true...from both states i had
If the state approved taxes paid will federal approve taxes as well??? One day it will say accepted then another day it will say as if we haven’t filed yet
I got my state but not my Federal yet... Is that normal?
I hope so because i got my state and not my federal yet
Yes, the Federal and State returns are both soft-checked at the same time before e-filing, and it is possible that you can receive your State refund before the IRS refund. The funds come from different places.
You can use the Where's my refund? tool to track your IRS refund.
Did u receive your federal tax return yet? How long after if u did.
With the IRS filing delay and backlog this tax season due to COVID, and now with the addition of getting a third round of stimulus checks distributed, the IRS has not stated how long it will take to deposit tax refunds. Each refund must be cross checked for stimulus, unemployment reductions, EIC, ACTC and more. If your refund contained any of the items for cross checking, it will take longer to get your refund.
No you can not pay a tax due from the other refund. Federal and state are completely separate. Or do you mean the Turbo Tax fees? No. You can only deduct the fees from a federal refund, not state. Sorry
Did you efile? Was your state return Accepted? Or did you print and mail it? Double check your efile status here
https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup
When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS or State Accepted or Rejected your efile.
When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. what does it say?

I did not understand this answer ... so if I received my state does that mean my federal was accepted as well? yes I efiled both state & federal
In order for your state to be accepted your federal return must usually be accepted first. This isn't true in California. But it is most everywhere else.
If you aren't sure if your return was accepted then you should log in to your TurboTax account and check the status on your return.
Yeh both federal and state are accepted just not approved.. but I did recieve my state back yesterday. But I just wanted to know if that means the irs can still hold my federal right ?
Yes, the IRS can still hold your federal refund. The IRS just has to accept your federal return, not process it, in order for the state to accept and process your return.
My state refund was approved on March 4th 2022,but my federal return saying I entered the wrong information, anyone knows what that means?
No, it does not have to be approved, it just must be accepted. It sounds like they are going to change your refund amount. This is happening a lot this year. If you look at line 30 of your return and it shows $1,400 or multiples of that depending on the number of people in your family or line 28 and it shows a full Child Tax Credit, this is likely what they are saying was entered wrong.
Many people received the $1,400 stimulus payment in 2021 and/or the Advanced Child Tax Credit payments, but then on their return, they enter that they did not receive anything. The IRS records show they did receive it, so the IRS is changing your refund amount by deducting the amount that they show you already received.
