2021 stimulus check refund

My 2nd stimulus check of $600 was sent to a wrong address and returned to the IRS.  Correspondence with the IRS, they have now sent me a letter and acknowledged that I never received the check.  Their instructions to me were to " claim the credit as a refund rebate credit on your 2021 return."  I did receive the $1,400 check.

I can't find anywhere in Turbo Tax where I can claim the credit.  Going to Other Tax Situations doesn't help.

Where do I go to claim the credit?

Thanks

You can only claim the $1,400 stimulus payment (3rd check) with the 2021 Return. To claim the 2nd stimulus check, you will have to file an Amended 2020 Tax Return since you cannot claim the 2nd stimulus check with the 2021 Tax Return.

To input information about the 3rd stimulus check please follow the steps below:

  1. Sign into your account and continue from where you left off.
  2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Federal Review on the top of the screen.
  3. On the next page titled Let's double-check the amount you received; you will be able to enter the amounts. TurboTax will state the amount you should have received based on the information you have entered. If that amount ties to what you have received you will click on the Yes option. If that is not what you have received, you will click on No and enter the amounts you have received as stated on Letter 6475.

Please be very careful that you enter the the exact amounts you have received or else there may be significant delays before you received your refund.

To claim the $600, 2nd stimulus check you will have to file the amended 2020 Tax Return. Please visit How to amend (change or correct) a return you've already filed on instructions on how to amend the 2020 Tax Return.

Hello,
Perhaps there is a misunderstanding.  I don't want to claim the check.  I never received it.
To amend the 2020 return I have to have received the check.
The IRS letter told me to claim a credit, as a " refund rebate credit " and do it on my 2021 return.
I realize this is an odd situation, so is there a way to manually include this on my return?

Thanks !

I don't know of any way to claim the rebate on your 2021 tax return. As @AamilD said, you can amend your 2020 tax return to indicate that you didn't receive the stimulus check, and then it will show as a recovery rebate credit due you.
