You'll need to explain your situation. And you'll need to name the state, and you'll need to explain what "won't let me" means. Exactly what happens when you try to efile the state return, and what/where is the roadblock?
Are there any messages? If so, what do they say?
Open your return and go through the REVIEW section. Is there any indication there why it's not letting you efile the state return, such as a particular state form not being available yet? Or when you log in, do you not know how to open the return back up to get to the REVIEW and FILE sections and submit the efile? If you don't know how to get back into the return, we can tell you how.
You appear to have said above that your efiled Federal return has been accepted. Is that correct? When you log back in and look at the Tax Home, does it show that the Federal return is "accepted?"
Once you explain, then hopefully someone familiar with state returns in general, or with your state in particular, may be able to comment today.
Here's something else you need to explain:
In the middle of your hard-to-understand paragraph above you said the following:
"Mind you they already took the payment of $120 to file fed.,State,so I paid,Now when I go on It says that I do not qualify for Free Filing and to go to the IRS website,It won't let me file my state ,I already paid."
If you used a paid edition to prepare your Federal and State returns, what does the TurboTax IRS Free File Program website have to do with any of this? How did you end up there??? Why did you suddenly mention the Free File Program in your paragraph above?
Did you start out in a paid edition then somehow after you had paid, did you switch over to the TurboTax IRS Free File Program website using the same User ID? If so, what happens now when you log in? Does it keep taking you to the TurboTax IRS Free File Program website instead of taking you to regular Online TurboTax,? And are you therefore trapped and unable to get back to Online TurboTax to efile the state return?
So it go to say when I hit continue with my state on the next page it will come up in red written you do not qualify for turbo tax free edition because made over $36,000. And to proceed to the IRS free filing , It will not let me continue with my Mass State tax,Mind you they already paid for e-filing out of my Federal a,Which the Federal went through ,and got accepted and now being processed ,Also turbo tax could not help for it wouldn't let them go back to where I can to efile with my delux version that I paid for,Said they would reimburse me and to start the state over,That was 3days ago still nothing ,No reimbursement, and still won't let me past the page of were it says to go to the IRS free filing because I don't qualify for the turbo tax free filing ,I hope I'm making some sense here, lol And thanks for the input,Also turbo tax closed my case 10 min of hanging up with them Real nice, Grrrrrrrrrrr??
I don't know why TurboTax free filing would have anything to do with it why it didn't pop up on my website and now it's saying that I cannot e-file because I don't qualify and I already paid, again TurboTax was kind of useless and helping me with that because they couldn't figure it out either, I'm sorry for my hard to understand paragraph that I forgot to put my commas and dots!! So I do apologize
Can I put a screen shot up here so you can understand what I'm saying a little better,And yes the Federal was accepted
Hold off on the screen shot. I pretty much understand. I'm writing you another answer. Please wait on posting any more until I do, or it gets too confusing.
Only when I hit to go to proceed and filing my mass state ,That is when it will go to the next page ,for where is says that I need to go to the IRS WEBSITE
I do apologize thank you and I'll be bit more patient and waiting for your response
I think I'm starting to understand. See if the following is correct.
I think you started in Deluxe edition, and when you got ready to pay for the Federal and State returns, you chose to pay the fees out of your Federal refund. Then you filed and the Federal went through and was accepted.
Then somehow you ended up over at the TurboTax Free File Program website. It sounds like you somehow switched to the Free File Program after you had already paid for Deluxe. Or did you sign in at the wrong website? In any case, it sounds like you're trapped there in Free File Program and because you don't qualify, it won't let you file the state return. And you can't get back to Deluxe to file the state return because your User ID is now linked to the TurboTax Free File Program.
Is that pretty much correct so far? By the way, is that User ID that is logging you into the TurboTax Free File Program the same User ID that you used when you prepared the Federal return initially?
Many users end up with multiple accounts. I'm going to have you check for multiple accounts just to rule that out as a possible cause. Watch for my next comment on how to check.
The thread is starting to get jumbled up since you and I are posting at the same time. Because of that, it just placed my last comment higher up in this thread instead of in order. As I mentioned in that comment, did I pretty much understand your situation?
As I mentioned, for completeness, use the Account Recovery tool below to be sure you don't have multiple accounts.
When using the tool, try using your phone number first. After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access.
NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop. Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below. You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session.

If it won't let you efile the Massachusetts state return, will it let you print the state return if you choose to file by mail? Or does it not even let you get that far before it gives you that same message that you don't qualify for the Free File Program and to go to the IRS Free File site and choose a preparer?
I've asked a TurboTax Moderator to review this thread later today as well as your Support experience, and hopefully assist you further with this complicated issue. It's also possible other users like me may add to the thread. Sorry you're having to go through all that.
ADDENDUM 2/06/20 2:25 PM Pacific:
Once it's clear what all is going on, it "might" be possible to move your *.tax2019 data file out of our online account and to finish it in the desktop software installed on your computer, where you can finish and choose to file just the state return. If they decide to go that route, TurboTax should furnish you the desktop software as a download.
Thank you @mesquitebean for bringing this thread to our attention.
@MasterSean I'll be reaching out to you in a private message.
Hi sorry I'm just getting back somthing came up,But if your still up for helping me I'll put that screen shot up for you lmk ,Thank

I'm just a fellow user, so I'm not sure how much more I can add. You're welcome to post a screen shot in a comment in this thread, if you wish. It can't hurt, and maybe someone will think of something.
CAUTION: This is a public Internet forum, so make sure any screen shots do NOT have any personal information.
To add a screen shot in your comment, once you click on REPLY, you'll see a comment toolbar above the comment text box with various formatting tools. You then click the little camera icon in the comment toolbar above the comment text field. Then it will let you upload the image to this forum as part of your comment.
You should have received a private message from Moderator
@ GabiU
Try this to see if it will let you print your state return (it may not due to not qualifying for TurboTax IRS Free File Program.)
If it won't let you efile or even print the state return to file by mail, then as I mentioned as an Addendum in another comment, the only solution I can think of would be to ask TurboTax Support for the software download. Then you can download your *.tax2019 data file from your online account and open it in the desktop software and choose to file only the state return, but I don't know if you'll be able to efile it or whether you will have to print and mail it. Since you didn't efile the Federal return from the desktop software, the software might not be able to know that your Federal return has been efiled and accepted. In that case you would not be able to efile the state return. If it turns out that the desktop software won't let you efile the state return, it should still let you print the state return and file it by postal mail. On the other hand, if the desktop software does recognize that you efiled the Federal and that it was accepted (we can tell you a way to have the desktop software check the efile status), then it might let you efile the state return. BTW, in the desktop software there's a 19.99 state efile fee, but no fee to print and mail the state return. In any case, you would need to ask TurboTax Support or Moderator GabiU for the desktop software.
Check your PM (private message) from Moderator GabiU to see what she has told you. I have no idea what info she communicated. She should also see this thread again on Monday.
If you want to see if your Online return will let you download the *.tax2019 data file to use in desktop software, here's how to try:
If it lets you download the *.tax2019 data file, then you can open it in 2019 desktop software once TurboTax Support provides it for you.
NOTE: Remember all tax data files and PDF tax documents are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc. Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.
@ MasterSean
I added a little more info and explanation to one of my comments above, mainly telling you how to use the little camera icon in the comments toolbar to upload a screen image into your comment, if desired. Again, be sure no personal info is included on any screen shot in this public forum.
This thread is becoming long and jumbled on this complex issue so it may start to get confusing. In long threads comments can start getting out of order, where they might be overlooked. A bulletin board like this is a clumsy and inferior way of communicating when one has to sort out a complicated issue.
Thank you so much for that info, and ,cause I'm getting no where with this, very frustrating and ridiculous at the same time!!! that something like this is happening,it should register that I already paid the e-file ,federal,State, and the refund fee total of $120 ,and they still haven't reimbursed me the state like they said they would that's $40 rite ,idk thanks for your help!!
I've paid you. You first denied me, then i received an email saying you accepted the 'extension' for July 15th of which I gave you a bank account number and a routing number. This, of course, comes after you took 120.00 bucks from me. I have YET to receive any filing information from you of any sort. You have no number to talk to a live person but you sure do grab that fee quickly. I suggest you stop offering false services and return my money
@Wolfd6304 What filing information are you waiting for? You say you paid $120? We cannot see what software you are using, but that sounds like the fee for online Self-Employed. You also say you requested an extension and it was accepted. So that means you have until October 15, 2020 to actually file your Form 1040. You were supposed to pay your estimated tax due with the extension no later than July 15, 2020. You will need to enter how much you paid on your tax return. An extension does not give you extra time to pay--it gives you extra time to file your documents.
When you requested your extension you were supposed to pay your estimated tax due. Did you enter the payment you made into your tax return? Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>Other Income Taxes
You are not going to hear anything else about your extension. It was accepted (you say)---so when you are ready to file your tax return you can either e-file it or print sign and mail it.

You used a paid edition, so you qualify for live phone support from TurboTax. This is a user community forum, however, so you are not speaking directly to Support here, but the following will tell you how to reach Customer Support. You can explain more in this thread, if you wish, but it may be easier to understand your situation in a realtime phone conversation directly with TurboTax Support.
Hours are 5AM-5PM Pacific (8AM-8 PM Eastern) Monday-Friday.

I have that same problem. This is Mac Deluxe 2020. The program knew that I did not have my spouse's income. It went along as if it would file my state taxes anyway, charged me for doing so - and then refused to e-file for that reason. I will have to file by mail. How can I get my money back for the e-file service that should never have been charged if the program was not going to provide the service with what it already knew?

Because they werent getting it at first ,but the end result they did reimbursed me the money,Good Luck with that, but also i did a screen chat with one of the guys and he helped me efile again that took a couple of hr but manged you have to do on the computer or laptop and a shared screen so he can see as well whats going on so try that before you have to mail them in if you havent yet!! again good luck.
I sucessfully efiled fed. I've used tt for 15+ years. I simply go to state efile, at bottom it says in small print i already did fed as well as check status etc. the next page isn't usual efile page, it's a simple brief annoying message that i need to efile fed first, go back and click fed , which you can't because it has been efiled ! Tech support had me hop through hoops to bring in separate state software, ny. they were able to view my keystrokes, see my screen etc. 1hour to 2hours later, failure. and they closed the ticket ,not resolved but claiming so. i 'm using cd software. I uninstalled it. Brought down my download. I guess it's a duplicate in my license because the problem still exist. By the way it preserved the data, i was concerned , i 'd have to completely re-do taxes. i didn't. I can mail them. But I 'm trying to get this fixed. Any body else have this problem with bogus efile status when trying to efile a state, after successfully efile of fed and system says you didn't efile fed ??
