Ready to file Taxes

Hi Turbo Tax,

I am ready to file our federal and VA taxes.  There is a problem with a $220 tax refund we received from VA for tax year 2018.  Turbo tax tells me this is not federally taxed since we itemized deductions in 2018. The problem is it shows up as taxable for VA.

Turbo Tax won't allow me to file the taxes since the federal tax refund taxed is $0 and VA is $220.

Please let me know how I can resolve this problem in Turbo Tax so I can file my taxes.

Thank you so much for your help!

Terri

If you Itemized Deductions in 2018, then your State Refund is taxable income for 2019.

If you used TurboTax last year, make sure you didn't actually use the Standard Deduction if your refund is showing as non-taxable in your Federal return.

If you did itemize deductions, then Virginia does tax your state refund.
