If your business has assets you may need to file a Tangible Property Tax Return. TurboTax can help you file this return.  For more information regarding this tax please see the following link: http://dor.myflorida.com/dor/property/tpp/

If you are a Corporation, Partnership, or multimemeber LLC you may other state taxes for Florida and would need the Business version of TurboTax.

Hi, I'm an Account Lead for a software development company. Few months before the year end, I was converted from employee to a contractor. I received 1099-MISC for my work. I have a home office, a car and travel for my work.  Do I need to file Income Tax in Florida? I have printers, fax machines, office furnitures. I don't think my car would be considered a TPP, am I correct?  Therefore, under my circumstances even if I'm  "self-employed agent or contractor", I DON'T need to File a TPP and Income tax in Florida.

If you are listing any assets on your Schedule C, you must file a Florida return.

Thank you KrisD15.  So only if I declare asset instead of business expense, I need to file FL state income tax return.

Thank you ValerieE.

According to the IRS ruling mentioned on this link, the IRS allows you to alternatively declare the asset as business expense.  (IF you do, then you don't need to file FL income tax, do you agree?)

An asset for tangible property tax purposes in Florida would be any item of furniture or equipment, it would not matter if you expensed it on your federal tax return. You need to keep in mind, however, that you get an exemption from tax for the first $25,000 of tangible property you have in Florida, provided you file the property tax return on time.

@ThomasM125 , thanks again.   are you referring to Florida Form DR405 as "property tax return"?

I'm done with my Federal but would like to double check if I still need to file FL ITR.  I have form 8829 where the value on line 36 (expense for business use of home) was transferred to Schedule C Part II line 30. I didn't declare or expense any other tangible asset (furniture, printers, etc).   If I'm interpreting your response correctly, as long as I submit a DR405 with FL revenue department, I don't need to file  FL ITR?  Thanks.

There is no Florida Income Tax Return to file.  The only tax form you need to file is DR405 if you have TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY that you use in your business.

Not if you use the standard mileage rate and the business doesn't OWN the car.
