It should be included when you file your return.

If you have entered all of your information into the TurboTax program under the state interview questions, the software will calculate the amount of the Renter's Rebate you are entitled to.

Go back through your state section.

If you have met all of the requirements to claim the renter's credit, you will see the following example screen:

Please see the following information to ensure you do qualify for the credit:

I did get both of the screens you showed in your screenshots, but why is the amount not reflecting on my refund amounts? I filed with my landlords e-file number.

I'm having the same problem. I'm getting a renter rebate in VT, and turbotax even showed i was getting one for a certain amount. But on the top of the screen is says VT refund $0. I even bought a turbotax plus membership and spoken with 4 people from turbo tax, i was told to mail it in and i should get the rebate refund. However, all past years I've used turbotax the renter rebate amount always shows up in the amount I'm owed, not $0.

Same issue here!  I completed all the renters rebate information and my rebate was calculated, but it was not reflected in my refund.  Instead, since I owed a small Vermont state amount, I just said I would pay by April 15th. This was no problem last year.... my guess is that the programmers at Intuit messed up!

I had to go to the state of Vermont website to complete the renters rebate.

Did you follow the directions that are outlined in this Turbo Tax link. These are.

Form PR-141 is used to apply for the VT Renter Rebate Claim and it can be filed along with your return. You must meet all of the following eligibility requirements to qualify for the renter rebate claim.

  • You were a Vermont resident for all of 2019
  • You will not be claimed as a dependent in 2016 by another taxpayer
  • Your 2019 household income is less than $47,001
  • You are the only person in the household making a renter rebate claim
  • You received Form LC-142, Landlord's Certificate, for 2019 from your landlord (or should have received a certificate)
  • You were a Vermont renter for all 12 months of 2019.

While in your VT return, you will come to a screen, Renter Rebate Claim. [See Screenshot #1, below.]  If you meet all of the requirements, click the Yes box.  Continue through the screens, entering the requested information.

I am also having the same issues. I hit yes on the first screen and went through everything and entered correctly. When I get to the end it says I'm getting back 1,000+ but then when I finish and file it only added a small % of that. Not sure if I still need to print & send with the pr-141 in the mail or not?

Help!?!

The renter's rebate claim on PR 141 is available for use and does e-file with your state return. Your income must be $47,000 or less to use it along with other criteria earlier in the posts. To calculate your rebate credit:

1. Income times percentage below:

  • Income 0-$9.999 is 2%
  • Income $10,000-$24,999 is 4.5%
  • Income $25,000-$47,000 is 5%

2. Subtract answer from #1 from rent paid

3. Rebate credit

Please verify your taxes are correct before filing. The IRS does not open until February 12.
