I'm a resident of CA but didn't work in CA in 2023. I worked/lived in HI for 6mos. Am I rqd to file taxes in both states? Would I be considered part yr resident in both

Yes, you need to file both states.

  • If you were a resident of CA all year, you need to file a resident CA and a non-resident HI return.
  • If you made a permanent move during 2023, then yes, file 2 part-year resident returns.
