Form 1127 isn't e-filed with your return, it gets printed and mailed.

To get back into your return, sign in to your account. At the Welcome Home screen, choose Visit My Tax Timeline .

Under Some Things You Can Do, at the bottom of the screen, Choose Add a State (you aren't really adding a State, but you will be able to access your return).

Go to State Taxes, then on your NY state return choose Edit. Then choose Go Over NY Again. Go through the interview, and don't change anything until you reach the page Take a look at New York City credits and taxes .Scroll down to New York City Employment Taxes and choose to  start NYC Nonresident Employees Tax (NYC-1127)  See the screenshot. Proceed with the interview until you reach the screen Print and File Form NYC-1127. There you will be able to print out your form.

The answer above is NOT accurate.  No one should file NYC 1127 manually.  Turbo tax will complete the form for you, and you have to send it by mail.   However, as for as you doing the tax calculation yourself is not true.  Turbo tax will Add the form NYC1127.  if you are lucky, you will find a rep that knowledgeable in adding this form to your turbo tax return.  Every year,  i have to go to the same fight.

Turbotax never asks to enter anything from nyc1127 you received from your employer. Instead it takes Federal Tax withheld from W2 data and enters it in NYC 1127 Form, which is wrong. How can I correct this error?

According to staffer in CUNY Human Resources, there is no W2 data regarding NYC local income tax because of a software policy or error that refuses to include the data on the CUNY W2. My experience in April 2018, during which I spent over 8 hours trying to master the issue, with 2 EAs and 1 very helpful CPA with whom I toiled for over 5 hours. Imagine having to pay a CPA for that. But then I may go that route for 2018 taxes.

For the Form NYC-1127, you must first determine if you are first required to file. Generally, only New York City employees living outside of the 5 boroughs must file Form NYC-1127.

You do not need to file Form NYC-1127 if you are a city resident or are not a NYC Government employee. NYC employees are individuals employed with New York City Government agencies such as NYPD, FDNY, Department of Finance, Department of Sanitation.

If you are required to file, please follow these steps to get to your NYC-1127:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click on State on the left hand side.
  3. Click Edit next to your NYS return.
  4. Confirm you a resident of NYS with no NYC residency.
  5. Continue through the interview until the screen Take a look at New York credits and taxes.
  6. Scroll down to the section named New York City and Metro Commuter Taxes.
  7. Click on Start next to NYC Nonresident Employees Tax (NYC-1127).
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions.

I have attached a picture below for additional guidance.

The screen that allows you to enter the information for NYC1127 will show up after you do your income allocations.   You say you saw the screens for the interest and dividend allocations, so you have to keep clicking through the screens; the credits are entered after the income allocations.   The NYC and Metro Commuter Taxes section is on the screen/page titled Take a Look at NY Credits and Taxes.   You will see the option for NYC1127 in that section if you have previously indicated that you are a resident of NYS, but a non-resident of NYC.   @bigkab57

A Live Advisor can take a diagnostic copy of your return and see your 1127 form.  You will be able to see the form after you have paid for TurboTax by going to Tax Tools, Print Center, and printing a pdf copy of the return.

You can pay your TurboTax fees at any time prior to filing your return. You don't have to file your tax return until you are ready. Please see How can I pay my TurboTax Online fees? for more information.

Hello. What if you were a partial resident of NYC, will the 1127 form appear?

Thank you for responding. My issue is I'm not seeing the form in the Take a look at NY credits and taxes section.

Did you enter yourself as a part-time resident of NYC so TurboTax knows you lived outside the five boroughs for some of the year? This would be in the beginning of the New York interview.

I just did a mock-up return living in NYC for 50 days. On the page Take a look at New York credits and taxes, I got to the correct screen by scrolling all the way to the bottom for NYC Nonresident Employees Tax (NYC-1127).
