Filing Federal and State NY for residency

I had a house and lived in NY from Jan 1, 2021 to Oct 29, 2021.  From October 29, 2021 to current I stayed in Florida.  I purchased a new home in NY on Dec 20, 2021.  I filed as being in NY from Jan 1, 2021 to October 29, 2021.  I olan to go to my NY home in May 2022.  Question, answering the as to length of time in NY I stated I left Oct 29, 2022.  The forms did not ask about purchase of a home in NY Dec 20, 2021.  My NY taxes seem out of alignment where I am getting a larger than normal refund.  My concern is if I am interpreting the forms correctly. Who can I speak to about this?

tks

You can speak with a Live Tax Expert who can look over your tax return. Go to How do I connect with a tax expert in TurboTax Live?

You did not say whether you worked remotely after moving to Florida. You may be getting a larger refund if you teleworked and still had NY state tax withheld for the full year but only reported part-year income.

You may still have to pay NY tax if you are working remotely in FL if you still report to, and are directed by, a NY office. NY follows the convenience of the employer rule.

TurboTax will not ask you about buying a house, but a purchase is not a taxable event. New York may question whether you were a part-year resident for 2021 even if you spent time in Florida because you bought a house and intend to return to NY.
