Filing Amended 2019 Georgia State tax Return

I needed to file an amended 2019 Georgia State tax return for my granddaughter. went through the process. The program stated that Georgia amended returns could be filed electronically, but when I got to the point of transmitting the amended return, I got a statement that the return could not be transmitted, it would have to be mailed. Since the original return was filed electronically, is it going to cause a problem to mail the amended return?

There is not a problem with mailing it in. I would recommend that you track your letter, for your peace of mind that it safely arrived and proof that you sent it.

An amended return is necessary when changing the taxable income. If you received a letter from the state asking for more information, you probably do not need to file an amended return. You should just reply to the letter.

You cannot e-File a GA Tax Amendment anywhere, except mail it in. However, you can prepare it online, print, sign and mail.  TurboTax will allow you to amend for free.

If you only need to amend your State return, go through the steps for a Federal amendment, and then prepare your State amendment.

The State return pulls info from your Federal return, so you need to go through the amended interview there, even if you don't need to amend your Federal return.

Then you will be able to print and mail your State Amendment only.  You may want to wait until both your Federal and State returns have been accepted, and you have received your Refund, before preparing any Amended returns.
